Week 11 Accuracy Scores: Which Experts Came Out on Top?

With only 5 weeks left in the fantasy football season, we’re getting close to crowning this year’s most accurate expert. If the latest results are any indication, the experts are sensing the urgency and stepping up their game as we come down the home stretch. The average accuracy score for our entire field this past week was the highest it’s been since the 2nd week of the season. This should set us up for an exciting conclusion to the season as the experts compete to determine who offers the best Start/Sit advice.

Let’s take a look at the updated accuracy results to see which experts got things right in week 11. We’ll also examine whether or not there were any shake-ups to the overall standings.

Notes:

  • Congratulations to the staff at Fantazzle for capturing week 11’s top accuracy honor. The key to Fantazzle’s success was that they produced a set of rankings that scored well across the positions evaluated: QB (#4), RB (#5), WR (#6), and TE (#5). The staff’s best performance came at the QB position where their rankings earned an impressive PAY™ of 81%. This effectively means that following their relevant advice would have netted fantasy owners 81% of the available QB fantasy points. With a rating this high, it should come as no surprise that Fantazzle was more accurate than the Expert Consensus at ranking a majority of week 11’s top QBs including Ben Roethlisberger (PIT), Aaron Rodgers (GB) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF). They also notably slotted Michael Vick (PHI) lower than all but 2 experts and this turned out to be great advice that helped to boost their accuracy score.

  • The staff at KFFL pulled off something that only one other expert (John Paulsen – The Scores Report) has been able to accomplish this year. That is, they finished #1 for three of the four positions that count in the overall scoring: RB, WR & TE. The only thing preventing KFFL from cruising to this week’s top accuracy score was a less than stellar QB performance (ranked #37 out of 40). Nevertheless, it was a terrific week for KFFL that was highlighted by their RB picks. They were the only site to give Fred Jackson (BUF) a top 5 ranking and they were higher than most experts on key performers such as Thomas Jones (KC) and Matt Forte (CHI). Perhaps equally important, KFFL also went out on a limb by delivering the lowest rankings to several studs (Rashard Mendenhall, Steven Jackson) that struggled in week 11.

  • Josh Moore (4for4.com) landed in the top 5 of the weekly standings for the 3rd time this year. The strength of Moore’s picks came at the RB and WR positions where he finished #2 and #4, respectively.  For his RB rankings, Moore rode big days from Fred Jackson (BUF), Maurice Jones-Drew (JAC) and Peyton Hillis (CLE). And for his WR rankings, Moore was a believer in several of week 11’s top studs including Greg Jennings (GB) and Marques Colston (NO). The confidence in these players ultimately helped to secure his strong accuracy score for the week.
  • Kudos to Scott Pianowski (Yahoo! Sports) for having his best week of the season as the 4th ranked expert. This now makes it 3 out the past 4 weeks that Pianowski has finished in the top 10 so he his coming on strong as the season progresses. Along with his colleague, Brad Evans, Pianowski was instrumental in helping the Yahoo! Staff Composite round out this week’s top 5.

Notes:

  • Holding on strong for the 7th week in a row at the #1 spot is John Paulsen (The Scores Report). It was another strong showing for Paulsen in week 11 (#7 overall) and this helped him extend his lead over our second place contestant, Andy Behrens (Yahoo! Sports). Paulsen can now stake a claim as the only expert in our study to rank in the top 10 for all of the key positions that factor into the overall accuracy scores: RB (#1), WR (#2), TE (#5), and QB (#7). In other words, it’s a good time to receive advice from Paulsen because he’s been getting it done across the board.
  • While John Paulsen might be starting to distance himself from the pack, the race has never been tighter for positions #2 – #4. Andy Behrens (Yahoo! Sports), David Dodds (FootballGuys) and Chet Gresham (Razzball.com) are each separated by roughly .2% in the standings. Week 11 was particularly good to Dodds and Gresham as they each narrowed the gap between themselves and Behrens. It should be interesting to see how this particular portion of the leaderboard plays out over the coming weeks because it represents an opportunity for a shakeup to the standings.
  • The only new expert to join the top 5 this week is Gregg Rosenthal (Rotoworld). Rosenthal is no stranger to the front of the leaderboard, however. This now marks his 4th appearance in the YTD top 5 standings and he has been as high as 4th overall. For the year, Rosenthal is doing his best work at the WR position (#5 rank) and he has proven to be one of the most consistent experts that we track considering that he finished 4th overall last year.
