Fantasy Baseball: Week 3 Guide

Melky Cabrera Blue Jays

Has the “Melk Man” from San Francisco returned?

Another week is just about in the books so it is time to start looking at week 3 and the potential matchups your players face. That being said, we’ve launched our My Playbook Premium feature, the Lineup Assistant. Get advice on who to start/sit for the week and see a breakdown of your projected outcome.

For additional help, check out these articles below as each one will provide you insight on how to maximize your fantasy team for week 3.

ESPN: Fantasy Forecaster: Week 3

Fantasy players will have some additional time to set their rosters up with the Monday’s first game starting at 7 p.m. (EST). Last week Tristan Cockcroft (ESPN) had Yu Darvish atop his pitcher rankings and after a stellar week 2 performance, he finds himself in the two slot behind Stephen Strasburg. These are no surprises though and you would not be sitting them if you had them on your team anyway. There are some other interesting names on his list though, including Tim Lincecum at #16. Lincecum hasn’t had the best and that would be an understatement. He does have two games in week 3 though and if anyone is capable of racking up the K’s, he would be one of those guys.

CBS Sports: Start and Sit Hitters for Week 3

From catcher to the outfield, Scott White (CBS Sports) takes us through his obvious must start players to his not so obvious sit players. For example, obvious catchers to start are Buster Posey, Joe Mauer and Yadier Molina. How about Dioner Navarro and Russell Martin? Martin hit two homers in his last game, but Navarro has been hot as well. The problem for Martin this upcoming week is one, he’s never been a very consistent hitter and two, he’s facing tough matchups against the Reds and Brewers. If your wondering who to potentially start/sit for week 3, take a look at White’s article.

RotoBaller: Waiver Wire Pickup List

A daily updated list with commentary, the team over at RotoBaller provides a list of waiver wire additions you may want to consider. Seeing that Yasiel Puig and Josh Hamilton are both dinged up, here are two names off the Waiver Wire Pickup List from the OF position. One of the players had these stats from 2010-12. Per 162 game numbers, .292/.345/.516 slash line, with 30 bombs and 93 RBIs. The owner of those numbers would be Michael Morse who is seemingly on everyone’s watch list right now as he’s enjoying his new home in San Francisco. Then there’s Melky Cabrera who is no longer a Giant, but playing like he did when he was on the team before his suspension. If you’re looking for more waiver options, check out RotoBaller’s waiver wire list which is updated daily.

RotoWorld: Week Ahead: Ace Ventura?

Yordano Ventura was hyped up before the draft and after one game, he’s living up to the billing. In Nick Nelson’s (RotoWorld) “Week Ahead” article, Ventura has a nice pair of matchups against Houston and Minnesota. If you are lucky enough to have a guy who hits 101 mph on the gun sitting on your waivers, pick him up now as Nelson calls him a “must-add”. If you are looking for your streamer options, consider Bruce Chen (@HOU) and Tanner Roark (@MIA) both who have started the season nicely and will be facing questionable hitting lineups. For the rest of Nelson’s week 3 advice, have a look at his “Week Ahead”.

FNTSY: The Top Weekend & Week 3 Streaming Options

We still have tonight and tomorrow before the weekend is up so if you can still adjust your lineup for your streaming options, here are a couple of names to consider. Nathan Eovaldi the flamethrower from Miami has been talked about quite a bit in fantasy circles. Garion Thorne (Fantasy Sports Network) may put it best when he says, “the only way I choose to not stream Miami’s flamethrower is if he is no longer available in most leagues – which I whole-heartedly expect to happen by May.” Based on our last article about waiver wire finds I doubt he’s wrong with the consensus of experts that liked Eovaldi. Then there’s Jose Quintana who Thorne calls the lefty version of Eovaldi. Quintana does not possess the same fastball, but has solid stuff and will face an Indians team he has not had much trouble with in the past. Consider Bronson Arroyo and Dan Straily for your Monday and Tuesday streaming options, for the reasons why, head on over to Thorne’s article.
