6 Players You’ll be Thankful to Start

Robinson

The experts agree: Robinson should bounce back nicely after struggling last week.

It’s officially crunch time. If you haven’t already locked up a playoff berth there’s a good chance you’re facing a must-win situation to keep your title hopes alive. And with the NFL byes (finally) complete, you’re probably not looking for a deep sleeper to fill out your lineup anymore. Instead, you want to cash in on high upside any way you can.

With that in mind, we asked this week’s Featured Experts to tell us which RBs and WRs have the best shot of surprising as high-end studs in week 13. If you’d like more lineup tips, be sure to check out our Start/Sit links below. And, most important of all, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from all of us at FantasyPros!

Q1: What WR outside our top 50 FLEX has the best shot of putting up WR1 numbers this week?

MARTAVIS BRYANT (PIT vs. NO)
“It’s hard to go wrong betting on this sublime rookie WR class, so I’m gravitating toward Bryant and Jarvis Landry as the most attractive receivers outside the top 50 in the flex rankings. Bryant has six TDs in five games this season and has an outstanding chance to induce at least one Rob Ryan tantrum when the Steelers host the Saints. Landry, who’s been seeing more and more targets, has four TDs in his last four games and faces a Jets pass defense that’s given up a league-high 27 TD passes. Gun to my head, I’ll take Bryant because he can inflict heavy damage without the benefit of target volume.”
Pat Fitzmaurice (The Football Girl)

“The story on Bryant for Week 13 at home against the Saints is pretty cut and dry. He’s played 5 games this year and he has 6 touchdowns. He’s scored 5 of those 6 touchdowns at home. His quarterback has played 5 games at home and has 18 touchdowns in those games while averaging 361 yards. The Saints are allowing the sixth most fantasy points to wide receivers and ninth most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Bryant is going to get his and if he connects on a deep shot, he’ll be in WR1 territory.”
Scott Whitfield (Roto Rankings)

KENNY STILLS (NO at PIT)
“Was Stills’ performance last week not enough to garner more trust? If he had scored, Stills would have been a Top Eight receiver. In any case, Stills hauled in eight catches for 98 yards on nine targets and draws the Steelers’ middle-of-the-road defense this week. Sure, it’s a road game for Drew Brees and company, but the Saints allow the seventh most receiving plays of 20-plus yards (40) and 40-plus yards (9). Even if Stills doesn’t score again this week, he has a ton of potential given his targets and big-play ability.”
Jake Ciely (RotoExperts)

REGGIE WAYNE (IND vs. WAS)
“Wayne is the go-to option for Andrew Luck. While many want to say it is T.Y. Hilton who has been outperforming Reggie all season long, Reggie is the guy Andrew Luck will look to when he needs a big play. Last Sunday against the Jaguars, Luck had Wayne wide open on an 80 Yard TD, and missed him by a foot. If Reggie comes down with that play every expert would be ranking him like he’s a Top 20 WR heading into Sunday against the Redskins. Reggie had two strong games leading into Week 12, and his 9 targets against the Jaguars suggest his 3 Reception/10 Yard performance is nothing more than a fluke.”

STEVE SMITH (BAL vs. SD)
“Is Smith back? He was everyone’s breakout surprise early this year and now after the bye week the Ravens certainly made an effort to get him involved in New Orleans. That trend continues vs. a poor Chargers defense traveling across the country. Smith JR…will be back in WR 1 territory.”

Q2: What RB outside our top 50 FLEX is most likely to exceed expectations and produce RB1-caliber numbers?

DENARD ROBINSON (JAC vs. NYG)
“Bounce-back theory and the motivational power of humiliation often influence my NFL wagering, but I sometimes overlook those factors in fantasy football. I was high on Robinson last week, but he ran into a Colts defense that was breathing fire after being made to eat dirt by Jonas Gray and the Patriots in a nationally televised game a week earlier. Robinson’s Week 12 wasn’t completely awful — he had his best receiving game of the season — but his 14-25-0 rushing performance was a letdown after he ran for 389 yards and four TDs over the four previous games. Robinson should rebound this week against a Giants run defense that’s been gashed for 4.9 yards per carry this year.”
Pat Fitzmaurice (The Football Girl)

“It’s easy to say I’m picking the guy just outside the Top 50, but Denard Robinson should definitely be higher. The Giants defense has been decimated by injuries. As a result, running backs are running all over them. Over the last three games, the Giants have given up 484 rushing yards to running backs. On top of that, the Giants have allowed the second most receiving yards to running backs (569), an area where Robinson is starting to do more damage. Robinson is a great bet to hit 100 combined yards and find the end zone.”
Jake Ciely (RotoExperts)

“I know last week was awful but Denard Robinson is a RB1 this week. The Giants D is not great and a shootout could be on tap. I expect Robinson to go over 100 yards on the ground this weekend.”
Ken Zalis (Pressbox)

“Prior to week 12 Denard Robinson was averaging 18 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown in his last four games. This week he faces a Giants team allowing the 3rd most points to fantasy running backs which includes the 2nd most rushing and receiving yards out of the backfield after 12 weeks. I think his performance last week against the Colts was a fluke because I’m sure they didn’t want to get embarrassed on the ground again the way they did against the Patriots and Jonas Gray in Week 11. Try as they might, the Giants won’t stand in the way of Robinson in Week 13, who actually tied for a team high 5 targets last week. ”
Scott Whitfield (Roto Rankings)

TRENT RICHARDSON (IND vs. WAS)
“Fantasy Owners are underestimating the power of being sick, sick meaning ill. When a player is sick, you have to expect a HUGE dive in production across the board. In Week 12 the Colts decided that a healthy Boom Herron is a better option than a sick Trent Richardson. Even being benched and named the change of pace RB for the Colts, Richardson was able to find the endzone and save what could have been a disaster week for Fantasy Owners who used him. Heading into Week 13, Herron blew his chances with a crucial goal line fumble early in the game. The Colts gave up a lot to get Richardson, and the entire NFL has seen too much potential for Trent to be sitting behind Herron moving forward. Expect Richardson to lead the Colts backfield on Sunday.”
