Will Kevin White be the next best fantasy player of the future?

Will Kevin White be the next best fantasy player of the future?

We all have a good idea who will be the number one pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but that definitely does not mean that player will be the best long term fantasy stud. Drafts are tricky in that players will slide because of injury or character issues, but their dynasty value may be tops in the class.

With that in mind, we felt our readers would be best served by us asking the experts to rank their top 10 prospects with their long term value in mind. For all you dynasty players, here’s an early Christmas. Read on for the pundits’ rankings and thoughts on their top and bottom players.

Q1. Please tell us why you feel the player you ranked at #1 belongs there.

Kevin White (WR – West Virginia)
“White is my top predraft dynasty option because he has the highest (non-DGB) ceiling among wideouts, although it’s easy to make a case for the younger Cooper’s high floor. Unless Gurley or Gordon land in a perfect spot, like Dallas, I’ll continue to side with the relative safety and longevity of receiver over running back.”
– Patrick Thorman (Pro Football Focus)

Todd Gurley (RB – Georgia)
“You’ve heard this before, but former Georgia running back Todd Gurley looks to be the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson and if it wasn’t for the torn ACL that derailed his final season of college, there would not be any competition for the top spot among rookie rankings. Gurley is big, fast, powerful and elusive and there’s not much he can’t do at the running back position.”
– Ryan McDowell (Dynasty League Football)

Jameis Winston (QB – Florida St.)
“The 2014 Heisman Trophy winner passes the on-field eye test thanks to his power arm and pinpoint accuracy. The off-field concerns can’t be overlooked, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who will likely select the QB with the No. 1 overall pick, will surely do everything possible to help their prized asset. As for fantasy, stalwarts like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Philip Rivers are on the back-nine of their career while the likes of Jay Cutler, Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III are on shaky ground. That’s a huge space for a player with Winston’s game to emerge.”
– Ben Standig (CSN Washington)

Q2. Please tell us why you feel the player you ranked at #10 belongs there.

Ameer Abdullah (RB – Nebraska)
“Abdullah is near the front end of the second running back tier, the order of which will ultimately depend on what offense they’re drafted into. I like his decisiveness, hands, agility, explosiveness, and willingness to run inside. He’s versatile enough to play on all three downs in the right system.”
– Patrick Thorman (Pro Football Focus)

T.J. Yeldon (RB – Alabama)
“It wasn’t long ago that college football fans were debating which back was better, Gurley or Alabama’s T.J. Yeldon. Both burst onto the scene with huge freshmen seasons, and while Gurley continued to improve, Yeldon dealt with a shared backfield and disappointing performances. He’s still a tall upright runner who can bowl over defenders and he will have a place in the NFL and on fantasy rosters.”
– Ryan McDowell (Dynasty League Football)

Duke Johnson (RB – Miami)
“The 5-foot-9 back finished as the Hurricanes’ all-time leader in rushing yards (3,519) and all-purpose yards (5,534). There’s enough burst and wiggle in Johnson’s game to imagine him as a lead back if not true starter with the right team.”
– Ben Standig (CSN Washington)
