FanDuel Lineup: Saturday May 30

Posey is the best hitting catcher in the game and is worth the cost in DFS

Posey is the best hitting catcher in the game and is worth the cost in DFS

Saturday night’s DFS Lineup card features eight games with five taking place on the West Coast. There is no overwhelming favorite on the mound which opens up a wide range of possibilities.

Pitcher: Roenis Elias ($7,400) will take the mound for his seventh start of the season as he faces Cleveland at Safeco Field. Elias has shown the ability to pitch like an elite pitcher this season, totaling 31 strikeouts in 38.2 innings and amassing 14+ fantasy points in his previous two starts. Elias maintains the ability to score like an ace and provides the opportunity to play marquis hitters.

Catcher: The choice at catcher was made from sheer talent as Buster Posey ($4,000) is clearly the most gifted offensive catcher in this field. Although he’s had a down week, hitting only .227 in his last 6 games, he went 2-for-4 last night including a home run and appears ready for another breakout streak. Expect Posey to take advantage of the inexperienced Atlanta starter Williams Perez.

First Base: The top choice at first base is Anthony Rizzo ($4,200), but with the forecast in Chicago I am deferring to the 1A, Miguel Cabrera ($4,900). Miggy has had great success reaching base against Anaheim starter Jared Weaver with an OBP of .370. Cabrerra has also homered, knocked in four runs, and doubled three times in his 23 at-bats against the right-hander.

Second Base: Robinson Cano ($2,600) is expected to make his return to the Mariners lineup Saturday following an illness which has kept him out of the previous two games. It seems he has picked an opportune time to return as he will face Shaun Marcum, a guy he hits at a .353 clip. Cano is priced cheap which makes him a very good value play.

Third base: After an inauspicious start to the season, Adrian Beltre ($3,300) looks to cap off a great May as he faces Wade Miley and the Red Sox Saturday night. Beltre is hitting .269 with four home runs and fourteen RBI in the month of May. Expect Beltre to be a big part of the production in what is sure to be a slugfest in Arlington.

Shortstop: Xander Bogaerts ($2,200) costs the FanDuel minimum and is playing in a game with the highest projected total of the night, set at 9 runs. I anticipate Bogaerts will become a fortunate recipient of circumstance as the Red Sox and Rangers combine for a plethora of runs.

Outfield:

Norichika Aoki ($2,900) is the definition of locked in. In his previous seven games, Aoki is batting a superhuman .500 with 14 hits in 28 at-bats. The low cost makes Aoki a steal as he consistently collects multi-hit games.

The uncertainty surrounding Josh Hamilton ($2,600) and his ability moving forward remains, but Friday night proved he is comfortable in his old home and the power is prevalent. In his two home games since returning to the Rangers, Hamilton has 4 hits in seven at-bats, scored three runs, and hit a pair of home runs. Although Hamilton will be a popular play, taking a flyer on his $2,600 salary is a no brainer.

Mike Trout ($5,100) is well on his way to claiming his second MVP award. He has an OBP of .381, 11 home runs, and 25 RBI. The choice to start Elias on the mound makes the $5,100 salary of Trout affordable. Mike Trout is a multi-dimensional threat and the best player in the game from the fantasy perspective.

Please remember to check the starting lineups and weather implications prior to submitting lineups as this article was written prior to knowledge of either.
