Chris Archer has a nice matchup Tuesday against the struggling White Sox

We have a full slate of games to use for tonight’s DFS contests and a good group of ace starting pitchers to build around. Five of tonight’s contests have over/under lines of eight runs or more, with Colorado/Seattle topping the list with an O/U line of 11 runs. Weather should not be an issue with any of the games tonight, however make sure to keep yourself updated by following @KevinRothWX on Twitter for up-to-the-minute weather information.

Pitcher

Archer is my top ace of the night. The game is tied for the lowest run total at 6.5 and Archer faces a White Sox offense that has scored the fewest runs in the American League to date. In his last three starts, Archer has a 26/3 K/BB rate over 20 innings with three earned runs allowed. The White Sox are a slight favorite to win with Chris Sale on the hill, so chances of getting a win bonus for Archer aren’t that great. That said, I like Archer to pick up a quality start with a good number of strikeouts against the worst run-scoring offense in the American League. Picking Archer over Sale gives me a little bit more money to spread around my offense.

Other Notables

  • Chris Sale – CHA – $11,500
Sale is a good high-floor play that I’ll be using in cash games. He’s struggled in his last three starts, allowing 13 earned runs over 18.1 innings. He does own a 20/2 K/BB rate over that span, and in his last start against Tampa Bay he struck out 12 batters. The White Sox are favored in the contest, and Sale has a better chance at a win bonus than his opponent Archer.
  • Carlos Carrasco – CLE – $9,400
If you don’t want to spend more than $10,000 on a pitcher tonight, Carrasco is your guy. Over his last three starts, Carrasco has a 18/4 K/BB rate over 19 innings. He’s a bit of a boom-or-bust play, as the wheels are capable of falling off in any given start. Still, his upside tonight is worth considering.
  • Patrick Corbin – ARZ – $7,000
Corbin is my value play of the night at pitcher. The Nationals/Diamondbacks game is tied for the lowest run total of the night at 6.5. Corbin faces top-priced starter Max Scherzer, so a win bonus will be tough to earn, but Corbin’s price will allow you to surround him with a quality offense. The Nationals are 19th in MLB with a .300 wOBA against left-handed pitching.

Catcher

A catcher eligible at this price playing in Colorado should surely cost more, but Montero is currently flying under the radar. He will receive a LOT of exposure in lineups tonight, so if you’re looking for a catcher that isn’t highly owned you’ll have to look elsewhere. The Seattle/Colorado game leads the majors with an O/U of 11 runs tonight, and Montero is one of the cheapest plays you will find in that game. Montero has played in Seattle’s last four games, collecting a hit in each of them including a home run and three doubles. I expect Montero to be used in close to 40% of lineups tonight (if he’s starting).

Other Notables

  • Yasmani Grandal – LAD – $3,400
  • Jonathan Lucroy – MIL – $2,700
  • Wilson Ramos – WSH – $2,200
  • Stephen Vogt – OAK – $2,200
I know Vogt has really been struggling, but the price makes him so intriguing. He faces Miguel Gonzalez who has a .322 wOBA against left-handed hitters.

First Base

Fielder is my top choice at first base against an Astros team that the Rangers absolutely pummeled on Monday night in Arlington. The Rangers didn’t just knock starter Lance McCullers out of the game, they scored six runs on Mike Fiers who was supposed to start today but instead had to come on in relief. The Astros were forced to call up Dan Straily for tonight’s game which makes a lot of Texas hitters very intriguing. This could be a rough bullpen game for the Astros. Fielder is priced as the tenth first baseman tonight (I’m not counting Miguel Cabrera) and I think he’ll finish among the top five in points scored this evening.

Other Notables

Second Base

Kendrick and the Dodgers are facing Jerome Williams at Citizens Bank Park tonight. Williams is having a rough season with a 6.36 ERA. The Dodgers are heavily favored in this game, and you can bet there will be a lot of Dodgers in lineups tonight. On first glance, you’d want to load up on lefties against the righty Williams, but he has actually performed worse against right-handed batters. Here are Williams’ righty/lefty splits:

  1. Right-Handed batters: .343/.369/.607, .414 wOBA, 15 home runs allowed
  2. Left-Handed batters: .312/.382/.416, .354 wOBA, 2 home runs allowed

I’ll be loading up on right-handed Dodgers tonight.

Other Notables

Third Base

Beltre hit for the cycle last night, scoring 14.75 points against the Astros. I’m doubling down on last night’s performance as the Rangers will face Straily who was called up for a spot start. In his last 10 games, Beltre has hit safely in six of them with five multi-hit performances.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Crawford hit two home runs last night against the Braves, scoring 12.25 points. He’s hit safely in eight of his last 10 games with four home runs and three multi-hit performances. I’m doubling down on Crawford’s effort from last night. There’s a chance Crawford could sit out this game, as the Giants like to give him regular rest, so keep an eye on his status leading up to game time.

Other Notables

  • Freddy Galvis – PHI – $2,800
Galvis and the Phillies face lefty Alex Wood making his Dodgers debut. This season, Galvis is punishing left-handed pitching with a .360 batting average. He has collected hits in nine of his last 10 games with four multi-hit efforts. BvP is often a bad way to evaluate players for DFS purposes, but I will include that Galvis is 6-for-10 in his career against Wood with a 1.300 OPS.

Outfield

My outfield tonight consists of two right-handed Dodgers and a lefty masher. Chris Young is the highest priced player from this group, and he faces a lefty. Young has a .363/.426/.696 line against lefties this season and he faces Henry Owens making his debut for the Red Sox.

I think the Dodgers right-handed hitters will do well against Jerome Williams tonight as he has trouble against same-handed batters. Guerrero has been manning third base after Justin Turner went to the DL, and his price is too good to pass up. Puig is in a rut, collecting hits in three of his last 10 games, but I’m willing to use him tonight at his price.
