Hitters

Runs

Khris Davis (MIL – LF)
Owned in 35.4% of ESPN leagues

Davis scored more runs than he had hits last week, as he tallied six runs and had five hits in 19 plate appearances. Also interesting is that except for one all came via the long ball (4). He also collected eight RBI. If it weren’t for his lower batting average, he would have more of an ownership claim. The good news is that he only has two years experience so look for him next season to continue improving. His season total is .241 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI. His stock climbed 14.5 percent over the week.

Home Runs

Stephen Piscotty (STL – LF, RF, 3B)
Owned in 37.4% of ESPN leagues

In 24 at-bats, Piscotty had just six hits (.250), but of those six hits three went for home runs. He also collected eight RBI in the process and scored four times. His biggest day came against the Padres when he hit two homers. He accounted for five of the 10 runs scored that day. He is a slight newcomer to the Cardinals outfield, as he has only played in 32 games, but with his dual eligibility he is worth a look. He is batting .321 on the season with four homers and 19 RBI. His stock rose dramatically by 21.3 percent.

RBI

Nick Castellanos (DET – 3B)
Owned in 15.3% of ESPN leagues

In his 26 at-bats, he collected 10 hits for a .385 batting average. Most impressive were his 10 RBI to go along with three home runs and four walks. He also scored three times. On the 19th against the Cubs, Castellanos hit two home runs and drove in five runs. On the season, he has a .246 batting average with 14 home runs and 61 RBI. He would be more well regarded if he didn’t strike out so much. In his 418 attempts, he has fanned 110 times. His stock rose 1.5 percent.

Stolen Bases

Jean Segura (MIL – SS)
Owned in 42.2% of ESPN leagues

In his 21 at bats, he was able to get on base seven times (.333 average) and was able to steal two bases. He also knocked in two and scored twice. On the season, Segura has 20 stolen bases with four home runs and 36 RBI with a .262 batting average. Only own Segura if you’re in need of stolen bases as he doesn’t do much other than that. His stock dropped one percent.

Average

Travis Shaw (BOS – 1B, 3B)
Owned in 42.1% of ESPN leagues

Shaw went from irrelevant to wanted in just over a week as he saw his stock climb 37.4 percent. This climb came from getting nine hits in 27 at-bats (.333 average) with one home run and three RBI. He also scored six times. From the 16th of August to the 20th he had 12 hits in 19 at-bats. On the season, he has only 85 at-bats but is batting .329 with six home runs and 13 RBI with 28 hits and 18 runs scored.

Pitchers

Strikeouts

Raisel Iglesias (CIN – SP)
Owned in 42.5% of ESPN leagues

In his 14 innings pitched Iglesias was making almost everyone look silly. He struck out 16 batters in that time, allowing just one earned run, six hits, and four walks. His final ERA was 0.64 and he had a WHIP of 0.71 on the week. Interestingly, he took the loss in each game as the Reds could only score one run total for both games pitched. On the season, he has a 3.93 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 73.1 innings pitched and a 3-5 record. If you can take on a pitcher that won’t win a lot, and need strikeouts, don’t look to further than Iglesias. His stock rose 27.5 percent.

Wins

Aaron Nola (PHI – SP, RP)
Owned in 34.9% of ESPN leagues

Nola pitched 13 innings and was able to notch a victory. His last outing against the Marlins was his best of the week. He pitched eight innings with six strikeouts and allowed just three hits and two walks. He did not allow a run. On the week, he allowed three earned runs, six walks, and seven hits (1.00 WHIP) while striking out 11 batters to finish with a 2.08 ERA. On the season, Nola is 4-1 with a 3.59 ERA and has 34 strikeouts in 42.2 innings pitched. His stock remained even over the week.

Saves

Kevin Jepsen (MIN – RP)
Owned in 21.5% of ESPN leagues

It’s unclear at this point if Glen Perkins can resume closer duties even though he pitched on Sunday. Perkins is recovering from a bulging disk in his neck, and with the Twins barely hanging onto a playoff spot it may be wise to not put much stress on Perkins in the closer role. Jepsen has done a splendid job filling in. He picked up two saves last week in three innings pitched and did not allow a run, hit, or walk. He also struck out four of the nine batters faced. Jepsen has seven saves on the season with a 2.58 ERA and 1.18 WHIP including 44 strikeouts in 52.1 innings pitched. His stock has climbed 14.3 percent. If you are the owner of Perkins, you should be all over Jepsen for insurance purposes.

ERA

Eduardo Rodriguez (BOS – SP)
Owned in 32.3% of ESPN leagues

In his 14 innings Rodriguez allowed 13 hits, no walks, and three earned runs. He also struck out six. He picked up one loss and one victory. Rodriguez was able to pitch eight innings allowing just the earned run on a home run and he struck out five against Cleveland. He has a tendency to allow home runs as there has been at least one in seven of 10 appearances, with nine homers total. On the season, Eduardo Rodriguez has a 7-5 record with 69 strikeouts in 92.1 innings. He has a 4.39 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP. It will be difficult for him to pick up many victories playing for the Red Sox. His stock rose 1.5 percent.

WHIP

Kevin Gausman (BAL – SP, RP)
Owned in 21.5% of ESPN leagues

Gausman pitched 13 innings over his last two games and picked up a loss each time. He struggled to allow five earned runs with three of them arriving via a home run. He did dominate batters as he struck out 14 and only allowed a total of 10 hits for a 0.77 WHIP on the week. This season he has a 2-5 record with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He also has 66 strikeouts in 73.1 innings of work. His dual eligibility should give him some extra value as a pitcher. His stock rose 2.8 percent.
