FanDuel has 14 games on their main slate tonight. The Diamondbacks at Cubs are playing an earlier game and won’t be featured in this article. Jacob deGrom is the only elite pitcher taking the mound tonight after Corey Kluber was scratched from his scheduled start. If you’re playing in 50/50s or Head-to-Head contests, you should pay up for the safest option in deGrom. You might be able to find value in some of the Tigers bats with the algorithm having Kluber as the opposing pitcher.
The projected run totals range from 7.0-11.0 with the Nationals, Blue Jays, Indians, Mets, Red Sox, Royals, and Astros all being heavy favorites. The Nationals, Yankees, Indians, Brewers, Reds, Astros, Royals, Cardinals, Angels, and A’s all have projected TT over 4.0. The Blue Jays, Red Sox, Giants, and Rockies have projected TT over 5.0. As usual, all of the hitters in the Coors game are an option but this lineup won’t feature any of them.
Every game looks to have good weather for baseball tonight. Pay attention to games with high temperatures or winds blowing out. Make sure to stay updated on the weather by following Kevin Roth on Twitter @KevinRothWx. He will have a full DFS forecast.

Pitcher
- Garrett Richards – LAA – $8,600
Richards was having a hard time getting his K% to where it was last season but has a career high SwStr% of 11.3% this year, which is an indicator that the strikeouts are going to come. Richards was back to form in the month of August with a 23.5 K% along with a 2.80 FIP. The Rangers come in with one of the lowest projected TT and the Angels are a -140 favorite.
Other Notables
- Jacob deGrom – NYM – $11,800
- Collin McHugh – HOU – $9,000
- Julio Teheran – ATL – $8,100
- Kris Medlen – KC – $7,300
- Luis Severino – NYY – $7,200
- Tanner Roark – WAS – $5,400
Catcher
- Evan Gattis – HOU – $3,100
Mike Pelfrey’s success vs. the Astros over his career doesn’t bother me. The Astros have a projected TT of 4.56 runs and Gattis will hit in the heart of the lineup. Gattis has reverse-splits and is posting a .329 wOBA, 109 wRC+, .217 ISO vs. right-handed pitching at home this season.
Other Notables
- Buster Posey – SF – $4,400
- Brian McCann – NYY – $4,100
- Jonathan Lucroy – MIL – $3,500
- Nick Hundley – COL – $3,400

- Yan Gomes – CLE – $2,600
- Matt Wieters – BAL – $2,300
- John Jaso – TB – $2,200
- Victor Martinez – DET – $2,200
First Base
- Joey Votto – CIN – $5,000
All signs point to Votto having another monstrous night. Votto has faced Garza plenty of times and posts a .333 wOBA vs. him. Votto is quite arguably having the best second half of any hitter with a .542 wOBA, 250 wRC+, .350 ISO. If that is too small of a sample size for you, Votto has a .438 wOBA, 179 wRC+, .263 ISO this season vs. right-handed pitching.
Other Notables
- Edwin Encarnacion – TOR – $5,000
- Miguel Cabrera – DET – $4,800

- Gregory Bird – NYY – $3,000
- C.J. Cron – LAA – $2,300
Second Base
- Brandon Phillips – CIN – $3,100
Phillip’s stellar season is flying way under the radar this. The veteran was written off after his mediocre season in 2014. He shouldn’t be highly owned tonight and comes into this matchup with a .330 wOBA, vs. Garza while posting a .318 wOBA, 98 wRC+, .141 ISO this season vs. right-handed pitching at home.
Other Notables
- D.J. LeMahieu – COL – $4,100
- Jose Altuve – HOU – $3,900
- Kelby Tomlinson – SF – $3,400
- Jason Kipnis – CLE – $3,400

- Brian Dozier – MIN – $3,200
- Chase Utley – LAD – $2,600
- Neil Walker – PIT – $2,500
- Kolten Wong – STL – $2,500
Third Base
- Todd Frazier – CIN – $2,300
Don’t you love when you go to the store and notice one of your favorite items on clearance or marked down well below the average cost? Frazier is that guy again tonight. He will be highly owned but sometimes you just have to chalk that up and go with the bargain and upside. The Todd Father has crushed Garza over his career with a three HR, seven RBI and a .495 wOBA. Regardless of price, Frazier grades out as one of the highest projected third basemen tonight in my model. Frazier boasts a .363 wOBA, 128 wRC+, .259 ISO vs. right-handed pitching at home this season.
Other Notables
- Josh Donaldson – TOR – $6,100
- Nolan Arenado – COL – $5,000
- Miguel Sano – MIN – $5,000
- Kyle Seager – SEA – $3,700
- Chase Headley – NYY – $3,600
- Manny Machado – BAL – $3,600
- Danny Valencia – OAK – $3,500
- Matt Carpenter – STL – $3,400
- Alex Rodriguez – NYY – $3,300
- Matt Duffy – SF – $3,000
- Nick Castellanos – DET – $3,000
- Jed Lowrie – HOU – $2,600
- Hector Olivera – ATL – $2,400
Shortstop
- Carlos Correa – HOU – $3,900
It’s time to pony up at shortstop tonight for the rookie phenom. His .400 wOBA, 158 wRC+, .258 ISO this season vs. right-handed pitching at home have him graded out as the highest projected shortstop on tonight’s slate. Correa brings the HR/SB upside that you need when paying up at a scarce position.
Other Notables
- Jose Reyes – COL – $4,400
- Troy Tulowitzki – TOR – $3,700
- Xander Bogaerts – BOS – $3,200
- Ketel Marte – SEA – $3,000
- Eugenio Suarez – CIN – $3,000
- Jean Segura – MIL – $2,700
- Jhonny Peralta – STL – $2,400
- Alcides Escobar – KC – $2,200
Outfield
- J.D. Martinez – DET – $3,400
- Carlos Gomez – HOU – $2,900
- Jay Bruce – CIN – $2,400
Martinez wouldn’t have been mentioned if it weren’t for Kluber being scratched. Things can change in a hurry and you need to be aware of those changes so you can take advantage of sneaky opportunities. Martinez has a .380 wOBA, 144 wRC+, .266 ISO this season.
Gomez comes into play vs. Mike Pelfrey tonight. Gomez’s upside seems to be forgotten after his quiet 2015 season, but he still has plenty left in the tank to put up huge numbers on any given night. Gomez has reverse-splits this season with a .317 wOBA, 96 wRC+, .147 ISO vs. right-handed pitching.
Bruce is nearly a must play for me in tournaments tonight on FanDuel. $2,400 is just too cheap for Bruce’s matchup at home tonight. Bruce has three HR, six RBI and a whopping .509 wOBA vs. Matt Garza. Bruce isn’t having a spectacular season overall, but when he is hitting at home vs. right-handed pitching he is posting a .337 wOBA, 110 wRC+, .241 ISO.
