Paul Goldschmidt and the Diamondbacks take on the Rockies in Colorado Thursday

Here we are with my final FanDuel lineup of the season. It has been a great year and although I haven’t made life-changing money, I’ve had a ton of fun playing in low-stakes games like the $1 MLB Bunt GPP which allows for only a single entry. My lineup today is geared towards that game.

Weather is going to be an issue especially on the east coast for the rest of the season, so do yourself a favor and stay updated by following @KevinRothWX on Twitter for up-to-the-minute weather information.

If there are any changes needed before lineups lock, you can check out my blog dfsrants.com. I’ll have suggestions posted around an hour before lock time. My “other notables” will come from our DFS Cheat Sheet that you can find here. Check it out if you’re having some trouble filling out a spot on your roster.

Pitcher

Patrick Corbin – ARI vs. COL – $6,900

I’m using the same logic to pick Corbin that I did to pick Robbie Ray on Tuesday. Ray didn’t work out that well for me, but I’m back to the well with a pitcher that I think will be under-owned given his upside. The Rockies are one of the worst teams in baseball against left-handed pitching, with a .291 wOBA and a 65 wRC+. Aside from a hiccup in his last start against the Dodgers, Corbin has been solid, throwing six or more innings in his previous five starts which includes an impressive outing against the Rockies at Coors field on September 1st. Arizona is favored in this game with a -182 line, so Corbin has a nice shot at a win and a handful of strikeouts against a Rockies team that strikes out at a 22.4% rate against lefties.

Other notables

Catcher

Yan Gomes – CLE vs. MIN – $2,400

It’s a rough night for catcher, so your best bet is to punt the position and use your money elsewhere. Gomes has performed well in his last ten games, hitting safely in eight of them with three multi-hit performances that include five doubles and a home run. Tyler Duffy stymied Cleveland for his first win on August 15th this year, and Gomes went 0-for-4 in that game. I’m hoping he’ll make an adjustment as Cleveland tries to play spoiler to the surging Twins.

Other notables

First Base

Paul Goldschmidt – ARI vs. COL – $4,300

I’m high on the Diamondbacks tonight against David Hale and his 6.01 ERA. Righties are hitting a bit better against him with a .304/.339/.525 batting line. Goldschmidt is probably the safest pick at first base tonight with his incredibly high floor. I’m going with the pack on this pick.

Other notables

Second Base

Anthony Rendon – WAS @ ATL – $3,000

There’s a chance of rain in Atlanta tonight so this pick could change as we get close to roster lock. Ryan Weber has struggled in his first three starts, allowing a .296 batting average to right-handed batters, and a .490 slugging percentage to left-handed batters. If you want some power from this game, pick a Nationals lefty. Second base is rough tonight and I think Rendon can get on base in front of a power hitter like Bryce Harper who will take advantage of Weber’s struggles with powerful lefties.

Other notables

Third Base

Miguel Sano – MIN @ CLE – $3,800

Sano has hit safely in eight of his last ten games, with one multi-hit performance, a double, a triple, a home run and seen walks. He’ll face Trevor Bauer who is making his first start since being recently moved to the bullpen. Bauer could be stretched out just fine for his start, but I’m thinking his routine could be a bit off which could lead to struggles. Bauer is such a cerebral pitcher and I think he could be a bit messed up having to come out of the bullpen to make this start tonight. This is a very narrative driven pick.

Other notables

Shortstop

Xander Bogaerts – BOS @ NYY – $4,000

I have to take Bogaerts, the American League leader in hits, against C.C. Sabathia who has given up a .308/.360/.506 batting line to right-handed batters this season. Bogaerts has hit safely in eight of his last ten games with five multi-hit performances that include four doubles, a home run and four walks.

Other notables

Outfield

A.J. Pollock – ARI vs. COL – $4,300

David Peralta – ARI vs. COL – $3,200

All “Hale” a Diamondbacks stack tonight against Rockies starter David Hale. Pollock and Peralta both have a great opportunity to club the righty and his .525 slugging percentage allowed to all hitters this season. There are no platoon splits with Hale, he’s equally bad against both lefties and righties.

Trayce Thompson – CWS vs. KAN – $3,000

Thompson has been stellar at home this season, posting a .435/.500/.761 batting line at US Cellular Field. He’ll face Kris Medlen, who has had trouble over his 9.1 innings against the White Sox this season, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with a .306 batting average.
