Defenseman, Brent Burns, is a great cash play every night

Happy Valentine’s Day weekend to all hockey fans and we welcome in newcomers this weekend with the NBA off due to the All-Star break. Tonight there is a slate of eight games with plenty of stars and offensive matchups which should produce fantasy points and opportunities for you to cash tonight. What you do with your winnings is your choice but it never hurts to splurge and enjoy a nice evening with the valentine of your choice.

Teams that I like this week for you to build your lineups around include Edmonton, New York Islanders, San Jose, and both Ottawa and Columbus.

Goalie

Martin Jones (SJ): $7,200 vs. ARI
Jones is coming off of a 33 save, 2-0 shutout victory at Chicago and will be facing Arizona at home who will be on the second night of back-to-back games. Jones is having a good season with a record of 25-15-3 and should have a very good opportunity for a win tonight.

Defense

Brent Burns (D – SJ): $8,200 vs ARI
I love to pay up and play top defenseman in cash lineups. Burns is one of the best and is coming off of a 10 point fantasy performance against Chicago. He averages 5.2 fantasy points per game and will play almost 30 minutes tonight in a good matchup against Arizona.

Seth Jones (D – CLS): $4,600 vs OTT
Jones is performing well as a top blueliner in Columbus, playing up to eight minutes more a night than he was in Nashville. There should be a few goals scored on both sides of this game tonight and fortunately, the plus-minus rating is not a factor in DraftKings scoring. Because I paid up for Brent Burns, Jones is a good value compliment, averaging 3.4 fantasy points per game.

Center

Connor McDavid (C – EDM): $6,900 vs WPG
McDavid is coming off of a five point game and 14.5 fantasy points in his last outing against Toronto. While he can’t be expected to produce these types of numbers tonight, he does have a good matchup at home against Winnipeg. Now is the time to play the talented rookie before his price tag begins to rise.

John Tavares (C – NYI): $7,900 @ CAR
Tavares has picked up his game lately averaging 5.1 fantasy points per game over his last 10 games. In his last four games, he has three goals and four assists and faces a Carolina team coming off a long shootout loss Friday to Pittsburgh.

Wing

Patrick Eaves (W – DAL): $3,700 vs WAS
Eaves is enjoying his place on Dallas’ top line, coming off of a first-period hat trick against Chicago. He still has a value price tag and is playing on one of the top lines in the NHL with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. He posted 13 fantasy points in the three games before his big 14 fantasy point performance against Chicago.

Kris Versteeg (W – CAR): $4,000 vs NYI
Versteeg has posted three fantasy points and five shots on goal in each of his last two games. He plays on the top line and power play unit for Carolina and gets up to 20 minutes of ice time a night. He is a steady player with 31 points in 54 games for the Hurricanes this season.

Mark Arcobello (W – TOR): $2,700 @ VAN
Toronto is in full rebuild mode after the trade of Defenseman, Dion Phaneuf. While the Maple Leafs will struggle for wins the rest of the season, there are new opportunities for playing time for someone like Arcobello who was just called up Monday from the AHL. In his first game against Edmonton, he posted seven shots on goal in 17 minutes of ice time including over four minutes of power play time. He presents a great punt option in today’s lineup at a minimum price.

Utility

Brandon Dubinsky (C – CLS): $4,600 vs OTT
Dubinsky has two goals in his last two games and has a good matchup against Ottawa. Ottawa is tied for last in the NHL with Columbus allowing an average of 3.09 goals per game. In what should be an offensive game tonight, Dubinsky will be centering Columbus’ top power play unit and have plenty of opportunities for points.

Make sure to double check lineups and particularly the starting goalies prior to the first puck drop as they can be subject to change.
