Welcome to the Friday edition of the FanDuel MLB Value Plays. We have 14 games on the main slate tonight and as of now it doesn’t appear that there are any games where we should be worried about the weather. Be sure to check the team lineups as they are released before locking any of these plays into your lineup tonight.

Pitcher
Juan Nicasio (PIT): $6,800 vs. CIN
Nicasio caught a huge break when yesterday’s game was postponed at Coors Field. Now he will face a struggling Reds’ offense today in a pitcher’s park. The Reds currently rank 28th in wRC+ and 27th in wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season. Nicasio is in a good spot to pick up the win if can limit his walks.
Other Notables
- Aaron Sanchez (TOR): $7,100 at TB
- Michael Fulmer (DET): $6,300 at MIN
Catcher
Yan Gomes (CLE): $2,900 at PHI
I’ve mentioned in previous articles how Gomes crushes left-handed pitching, and he has another great matchup against Adam Morgan in a hitter’s park. Morgran has allowed a .351 wOBA and a 1.68 HR/9 to right-handed hitters since 2013.
Other Notables
- Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET): $2,700 at MIN
- Jonathan Lucroy (MIL): $2,800 vs. MIL
First Base
Mark Reynolds (COL): $2,900 at ARI
It’s not quite Coors Field, but Chase Field is still a pretty good hitters’ ballpark. Reynolds has done well against left-handed pitching during his career, and Robbie Ray has been awful against right-handed hitters since 2013, allowing a .349 wOBA. I would only reserve Reynolds as a GPP option today, considering he does strike out too much to trust in your cash lineup.
Other Notables
- Justin Bour (MIA): $2,100 at MIL
Second Base
Chase Utley (LAD): $2,900 vs. SD
I don’t particularly like any value plays at second base today and will probably be paying up at this position. However, if you decide to go cheap at second base, I recommend using Chase Utley. Utley currently has a .395 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season and he usually hits at the top of the order in a solid offense.
Third Base
Derek Dietrich (MIA): $2,200 at MIL
Third base is probably another position that I will either pay up for or use a mid-range player. If you decide to go value here, perhaps in GPPs as a contrarian play, I suggest using Dietrich. Dietrich has always hit right-handed pitching well, and Zach Davies is not a good pitcher. Just be sure to check the Marlins’ lineup before locking him into your lineup.
Shortstop
Jonathan Villar (MIL): $2,700 vs. MIA
Villar has had a solid first month of the season with a .357 wOBA and a .174 ISO against left-handed pitchers. He is also a threat to steal multiple bases in any game. He makes for a good value play tonight against Adam Conley, who has struggled so far this season.
Other Notables
- Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM): $2,700 vs. SF
Outfielders
Adam Jones (BAL): $2,500 vs. BAL
Jones has had a terrible first month of the season. However, this price is just too hard to ignore for a good hitter. It also helps that Carlos Rodon has been awful in his young career against right-handed hitters, allowing a .351 wOBA and a 1.05 HR/9.
Michael A. Taylor (WAS): $2,400 at STL
Whether it is Taylor or Matt den Dekker ($2,000), whoever is at the top of the order for the Nationals is in a good spot against Mike Leake. Leake has allowed a .382 wOBA to right-handed hitters and a .317 wOBA to left-handed hitters so far this season.
Domingo Santana (MIL): $2,600 vs. MIL
Vegas has this game tied with the highest total on the board for tonight. In a small sample size, Santana has absolutely raked against left-handed pitching this season with a .469 wOBA and a .217 ISO. Santana could make for a solid stand-alone value option or in a Brewers’ stack in GPPs.
