Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: Huston Street, Miguel Montero, Eduardo Rodriguez

Who will Boston bump from their rotation in order to make room for Eduardo Rodriguez’s return?

Monday is here, and we have another edition of the FantasyPros Injury Report. There weren’t too many serious injuries this week, but let’s take a look at the most fantasy relevant injuries.

Huston Street (RP – LAA)
Street was placed on the disabled list earlier this week and leaves a gaping hole in the closer role for the Angels. It looks like Joe Smith will be the first one to get the nod.

He notched his first save on Wednesday against the Royals. On Sunday however, he allowed two runs in one innings against the Rangers. Follow this story closely as it looks like it could be a very volatile situation.

Scooter Gennett (2B – MIL)
The Brewers’ everyday second baseman occurred a right oblique strain and was placed on the disabled list. It looks like Gennett will miss around three weeks of action. Yadiel Rivera made the first two starts in Gennett’s absence, but also keep an eye on Colin Walsh and Hernan Perez.

Miguel Montero (C – CHC)
With Montero sidelined with a back issue, David Ross will split time with Tim Federowicz behind the plate. Both players are not worth owning since they are light hitters and neither one will see enough starts to be useful on a fantasy team.

Joe Panik (2B – SF)
Panik missed both games over the weekend due to right groin tightness and is likely to miss Monday’s game too. He should return on Tuesday or Wednesday according to the Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy.

If this gets worse and Panik misses more time, Kelby Tomlinson will most likely get the start at second base. He’s another guy who really won’t impact a fantasy team as he will probably hit eighth.

Travis d’Arnaud (C – NYM)
There’s no return date for d’Arnaud who is dealing with a strained right rotator cuff. Kevin Plawecki will see the majority of the catching duties.

In addition, Rene Rivera was called up and will be the backup to Plawecki. Like the Ross and Federowicz situation, both of these guys are probably not worth adding.

Ben Revere (OF – WAS)
Revere started his rehab assignment on April 28 and is expected back at the end of this week or early next week. This is good news for the Nationals, who have struggled at times at the plate.

Revere will probably resume leadoff duties and force Michael Taylor out of the lineup. Taylor is hitting under .200, so if you own him, feel free to drop him at any time. As for Revere, if he’s still available, he could be worth a pickup.

Yovani Gallardo (SP – BAL)
Gallardo found his way onto the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis. The good news is that the MRI showed no further damage and Gallardo is now pain-free. However, it still is unknown how long he will be out for.

He’s struggled this season with a 7.00 ERA, so he’s not worth a roster stash. Keep an eye on who the O’s might bring up to start for him, as they have a good amount of pitchers in the minors.

J.J. Hardy (SS – BAL)
Hardy left yesterday’s game after following a ball off his foot. He will need further tests later today to figure out how bad it is. Manny Machado moved over to shortstop and Pedro Alvarez came into the game to play third base.

If this alignment holds and Hardy is set to miss some time, Alvarez could be worth an add. Alvarez has shown tremendous power in years’ past but struggles with contact. With the short porch in right field, Hardy could knock some balls out of the park once again.

Eduardo Rodriguez (SP – BOS)
Rodriguez had a fluke injury with a dislocated kneecap that he suffered during spring training. When Rodriguez returns possibly in early May, it will have to bump someone out of the Red Sox’s rotation.

The most likely casualty would be Henry Owens, who just got called up last week. However, he hasn’t pitched that poorly. If you were going by sheer effectiveness, Clay Buchholz would be on the chopping block, but that would never happen unless he went to the disabled list.

Raisel Iglesias (SP – CIN)
Iglesias felt a pinch in his throwing shoulder on Saturday and was scratched from his start on Sunday. He was subsequently placed on the disabled list. Tim Adleman got the spot start for Iglesias, and although that might continue, I’m not too sure Adleman is worth a pickup.

He pitched six innings and gave up just two runs against the Pirates. However, as more video surfaces on Adleman, teams might be able to figure him out.

Proceed with caution if you plan on using him to stream. As for Iglesias, there’s no news on his timetable, but to me, it seems serious.
