Howie Kendrick was carted off the field in the eighth inning of the Nationals' game against the Dodgers on Saturday with an apparent ankle injury. (Mark Zuckerman on Twitter)

Kendrick appeared to get his cleat stuck in a drain making a catch, and immediately went down and pointed to his ankle or Achilles. Whatever the exact nature of the injury is, it appears to be serious, and Kendrick owners should likely plan for an extended absence.
