Starlin Castro not on the block

Seemingly stocked with prospects at the middle infield positions the Cubs seemed destined to trade Starlin Castro. After various inquires, the Cubs have informed teams that the 24 year old shortstop is not available. After a down 2013, Castro had a bounce back season hitting .292 with 14 home runs and making his third all star team in July. (CBS Sports)

Fantasy Impact:

With the Cubs aiming to make a big splash in free agency and hoping to possibly contend in 2015, it make sense for Castro to stay put. He has proven himself to be a consistent high average hitter with decent pop, a valuable commodity at the shortstop position but not easily replaced. His would be successor, prospect Addison Russell, most likely needs another season in the minors before making his major league debut. So for the time being Castro will continue to be a Cub and will be a safe and solid top 5 fantasy shortstop in 2015.
