Astros not a frontrunner for James Shields

by Dan Schalk | Fri, Feb 6th 1:35pm EST

Astros owner Jim Crane told Jose De Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle that he does not envision his club signing SP James Shields. Crane said the team "is not ready to begin making four year investments." Houston was rumored to be a darkhorse candidate for Shields. (Houston Chronicle)

Fantasy Impact:

Signing Shields would give the Astros a legitimate rotation in the AL West that includes Scott Feldman, Dallas Keuchel, and Colin McHugh. A deal seems unlikely due to Shields' age and his demand for a long term deal. Shields will be most valuable on your fantasy team if he signs with San Diego, which owns the title as one of the best pitcher friendly ballparks in the MLB.
