Brett Gardner firmly entrenched as the leadoff hitter for the Yankees

Brett Gardner should be the leadoff hitter for the Yankees for a long time to come. The article linked to this story projects the next four years for the Yankees and sees Gardner at the top of the lineup for the next three. (LoHud Yankees Blog)

Fantasy Impact:

Gardner has stolen more than 40 bases twice, led Yankees outfielders with 17 home runs last year, and has 18 triples over the past two seasons. Although those numbers sound good, Gardner has plateaued, as he only has a .754 OPS over the past two seasons and has stolen a combined 45 bases since 2013. There is potential for Gardner as a OF3, but a lot of his value derives from the Yankees offense running more smoothly. He had 87 runs last season and that was with the fourth worst Yankees offense ever; if the Yankees offense performs up to their normal standards, the leadoff hitting Gardner is a safe bet for 100+ runs scored.
