Marlins defeat Mat Latos in arbitration

by Jonathan Ebanks | Thu, Feb 12th 11:58am EST

The Miami Marlins won their arbitration case against Mat Latos in the MLB's first salary arbitration case to go to a hearing this year. Latos will receive the Marlins' offer of $9.4 million instead of his offer for $10.4 million. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Even $9.4 million is a bit too generous, considering that he made $7.25 million last season and put together a 5-5 record in 16 starts with the Reds in 2014. In October 2013, he also had surgery to remove two bone spurs in his pitching elbow and had another surgery on Feb. 14, 2014 to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. After registering a 3.25 ERA in 2014, Latos didn't play after his Sept. 7 start due to a bone bruise on his pitching elbow. Latos is 60-45 with a 3.34 ERA over his six year career.
