Ryan Zimmerman to Play 1B in 2015

Ryan Zimmerman is making the full-time move to first base in 2015 and the Washington Nationals and the 30-year-old infielder are confident that it will be a smooth transition. Zimmerman said this winter that he's ready for the move. (Federal Baseball)

Ryan Zimmerman is saying he is ready for the move and the injuries of last year are behind him. Zimmerman has turned into a risky injury prone player the last few years. Last year he played 61 games, the least amount in a single season since his rookie year (20). But switching over to 1B will help lower the injury risks and allow him to play more games. To help him with the switch is his manager, Matt Williams, who made the switch during his career. LaRoche was also one of the best defensive 1B in the league and Zimmerman got to play with him for 4 years. He saw what he needs to do and and knows how important the 1B is to the his infielders. If he can make the switch defensively, you will see it result in his normal batting numbers. His career slash line is: .286/.352/.476. and averages 25 HRs a season. He is also now eligible at 3 positions, OF/LF, 1B, 3B. His ADP is #123, so the risk isn't very high but still there considering the injury problems. I personally would take him at #123 because he is now eligible at 3 positions making up for the high injury risk.
