Carlos Ruiz

Ruiz's 2015 playing time will be watched closely

Carlos Ruiz is looking at limited playing time in 2015. Ruiz turned 36 earlier this year, and is the oldest starting catcher in the majors. Given his age and injury concerns(DL stint in each of last 6 years), it seems the Phillies are ready to start developing a new face behind the plate. "We're looking for a guy who can support us 50, 60, 70 games, Ruben Amrao, Phillies GM, said. Whoever wins that battle will see a great rise in playing time and fantasy value. (CSNPhilly.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Ruiz's value obviously decreases with this news. But, the opportunity for Cameron Rupp, Tommy Joseph, Koyie Hill, John Hester, or Rene Garcia is there this spring training. The competition for back up/part time catcher will be determined during spring training, but at this point, it seems like Rupp's job to lose.
