Knee brace is not holding back CC Sabathia

by Chris Zolli | Fri, Feb 27th 12:42pm EST

CC Sabathia threw 41 pitches after an offseason where he had his knee arthroscopically cleaned and needs a knee brace. Sabathia also arrived at camp over 300 pounds, so knee issues would be a logical problem. Sabathia says that he is fine and that he feels even better now that the knee is cleaned out. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Sabathia had his worse MLB season in 2013 and was both injured and ineffective in 2014, so he is coming off of two lost seasons and a long stretch of a lot of innings pitched. He averaged 213 IP per season from 2001-2013 and 223 IP per season since coming to the Yankees in 2009. He may not be the Cy Young candidate as he was in the past, but a healthy Sabathia should be able to pitch 200-215 innings this season. Mind this though: other than a poor 2013 season, Sabathia has averaged an 18-7 record with a 3.22 ERA and 205 strikeouts in four Yankee seasons. There is upside as an SP3 or SP2 in AL-only leagues for Sabathia if he is healthy; sadly this is the story for almost of the pitchers in the Yankees rotation so buyer beware for any Yankee SP.
