Brett Gardner

Slow beginning to Spring Training for Brett Gardner

by Chris Zolli | Tue, Mar 3rd 4:00pm EST

Brett Gardner hit second for the Yankees in their Spring Training opener and was 0-3 with a strikeout and two runners left on base.

Fantasy Impact:

Gardner, who had a career high 17 home runs last year, is looking to be an impact player this year. He is looking to do better than a .749 OPS in 2014 and, more important, is looking to regain his SB skills. After stealing 96 bases between 2010 and 2011, he has only stolen 47 bases since. He has never scored 100 runs, but may have the opportunity if he is the leadoff hitter in a stronger Yankee lineup. The leadoff battle between Gardner and Ellsbury is one to watch through Spring Training.
