Yu Darvish has partially torn ligaments in right elbow

by Chris Zolli | Padres Correspondent | Sat, Mar 7th 1:35pm EST

Yu Darvish only threw 12 pitches in his first Spring Training outing and his right elbow issues may sideline him for 2015. There is a very good chance that Darvish will undergo Tommy John surgery, with other options to rest his elbow for a few months or try to pitch through the pain. He was shut down for the final seven weeks of the 2014 season with the same injury. (Jesse Sanchez on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Darvish was a third round pick, ADP of 36, but the ECR for Darvish was only 63, as many saw him as a potential disappointment. This was the main issue for Darvish, who is a 200+ strikeout pitcher with a low batting average allowed when healthy, and he may miss the season. He will get a second opinion this week, but surgery is the suggested option. If Darvish does try to pitch through the pain, or rests the arm to allow it to heal without surgery, he will not be as effective this season. It looks like a lost season for Darvish in 2015.
