Adam Wainwright will make first spring start on Saturday

After suffering an abdominal strain, during a workout session at the beginning of spring training, Cardinals SP, Adam Wainwright, is expected to make his first start of the year in an exhibition game on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves. On Monday, he threw a three inning simulated game, and on Tuesday Cardinals manager, Mike Matheny, announced that he would start on Saturday, which would put him in line to start on Opening Day in Chicago. Fantasy Impact:

Wainwright should be ready for another great season this year if he can stay healthy. He has thrown a ton of innings in recent years and there are those that believe it seems unlikely he can continue to handle such a strenuous workload. The ace of the Cardinals will turn 34 this year and in 2011 underwent Tommy John Surgery because of a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Last year Wainwright threw 227 innings and had a career-best ERA of 2.38 with 177 Ks and a 1.03 WHIP.
