Angels pitching coach Mickey Callaway said Tuesday that Shohei Ohtani (elbow) is throwing long toss out to 180 feet. (Bill Plunkett on Twitter)

Callaway added that Ohtani should be ready to throw off a mound "soon". The 25-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last season and was slated to return as a pitcher around mid-May this year. With the coronavirus pandemic changing things, Ohtani could be ready as a two-way player whenever the season gets underway. Throwing off a mound will be the next step in his recovery.
