Erick Aybar: Missing More Than Howie Kendrick This Spring?

by Will Thompson | Thu, Mar 19th 11:28pm EDT

Erick Aybar is batting .231 with one triple and 8 total bases halfway through spring training. He has not attempted a stolen base in Grapefruit League play, unlike his previous nine tours in Arizona. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Aybar and Howie Kendrick, who was traded to the Dodgers in the offseason, weren't just the second-longest double-play combo in MLB at the end of 2014. They were also teammates in AA and AAA ball going back to 2005. Kendrick was in the final year of his contract this season, which is the same situation Aybar will face in 2016 - so transition might be heavy in the desert air. The Angels SS has shown a stable BABIP and OBP for four years, but his power and speed have steadily declined. If he can continue to improve on his K rate and line drive % as he did in 2013-14, he can still compile some counting stats and be a suitable injury replacement in 2015.
