CC Sabathia pitches his best game of the season

by Chris Zolli | Mon, Apr 20th 9:36pm EDT

CC Sabathia held the Tigers off of the board until the seventh inning, but the two runs that he allowed in the seventh made him a hard luck loser against the Tigers. Sabathia allowed seven hits and struck out five over eight innings pitched. Sabathia was also very economical, as he threw 98 pitched.

Fantasy Impact:

Sabathia looked like he was going to cruise to a victory, but the Yankees offense and defense let him down. The Yankees had averaged 5.5 runs per game over the six game road trip, but only scored once against the Tigers and Didi Gregorius misplayed a groundball, leading to the game winning run. Sabathia walked three batters as well, and his sparkingly 15.0 K:BB fell to 4.5; he still has 18 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings, better than his 7.8 strikeouts per nine over his career. He is a back end of the rotation option for fantasy purposes, even with an 0-3 record, as he will provide veteran consistency.
