Ian Kennedy ready for next start

by LaShawn Encarnacion | Thu, Apr 23rd 1:16pm EDT

Ian Kennedy finished his required rehab by throwing a side session on Wednesday. If Kennedy responds well on Thursday, then all signs are set for his return to the rotation Saturday vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Bud Black commented on Kennedy's rehab work. "Ian's side was good," manager Bud Black said. "He came out of it fine. We'll see how he is [Thursday], and make sure he's fine." With no starter penciled in for Saturday, Black reinforced the teams stance. "It'll be Kennedy or Despaigne," Black said. "You wouldn't be wrong speculating either. But you wouldn't be wrong if you speculated Kennedy a little more." (MLB.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Odrisamer Despaigne has filled in, going 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in 13 2/3 innings. Those numbers will go back into the bullpen if Kennedy is ready to start Saturday vs the Dodgers. As for Kennedy, it becomes the "high risk, high reward" situation you started the season with. Better to steer clear until Ian Kennedy has some quality starts without injury under his belt.
