Jimmy Rollins swipes fourth and fifth bag

by Eric Westlund | Mon, May 25th 4:33am EDT

Jimmy Rollins was fairly productive in the Dodgers' weekend series against the Padres, batting 3-for-12 and stealing two bases -- his first since April 17 -- to bring his total to five stolen bases on the year. Rollins is batting a respectable .278 since receiving a rest day on May 7, but he's still at just .201 for the year.

Fantasy Impact:

Rollins fantasy owners should treat any decent stretch of games as an opportunity to sell. Rollins was mostly drafted as a starting shortstop in standard leagues by owners hoping for something like a .250 average with 15 homers and 20 steals, but it's looking more and more like he will struggle to stay above the Mendoza Line or maintain an everyday role. Don Mattingly still (somewhat surprisingly) has Rollins batting second and starting every game, but he will likely begin to receive the Juan Uribe treatment soon. Uribe, a respected 36-year-old veteran with a slick glove and weak bat (sound familiar?), has already been relegated to part-time duty by the surprising production of Alex Guerrero and Justin Turner. The emergence of Kike Hernandez (.824 OPS in 34 plate appearances and plus defense at shortstop) and likely midsummer additions of Hector Olivera and Corey Seager should make infield playing time even harder to come by in the near future.
