Andre Ethier secures everyday role for Dodgers

by Eric Westlund | Mon, Jun 1st 8:24pm EDT

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told reporters on Monday that Andre Ethier will shift to left field once Yasiel Puig returns from injury to take his place in right. (J.P. Hoornstra )

Fantasy Impact:

Mattingly hinted that Puig's return would cut most significantly into the playing time of Scott Van Slyke and Alex Guerrero, who have been splitting most of the left field duties with Ethier in right. Although Ethier will likely still sit from time to time against left-handed starters, the promise of an everyday role in the Dodgers' crowded outfield makes him a viable standard league pickup rather than merely a fill-in option. The veteran is on pace for his best season as a pro, batting .305 / .395 / .519 with 6 home runs, 19 RBI, and 21 runs scored in 152 plate appearances.
