Andre Ethier plays hero off the bench

by Eric Westlund | Sat, Jul 11th 1:51am EDT

After leaving Thursday's game with a tight hamstring and general soreness, Andre Ethier was given a breather to begin Friday's game with Alex Guerrero starting in left field. In the bottom of the seventh inning with the Dodgers trailing 0-2, Ethier batted for the pitcher's spot with two men on and laced a two-run single up the middle. Even more impressively, he overcame his sore muscles and hustled all the way home on Joc Pederson's double immediately after. (Matthew Moreno on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

After the game, manager Don Mattingly said Ethier was well enough to start the game and was benched merely as a precaution. Assuming he didn't suffer any setbacks on his game-winning run, he'll look to resume his role as the strong side of the Dodgers' left field platoon going forward.
