Jonathon Niese has another solid outing

by James McGowan | Sun, Jul 12th 9:43pm EDT

On Sunday, the New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3. The Mets offense got a huge lift with three home runs by Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The Mets got another lift from Jonathon Niese who went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while walking none, and striking out three.

Fantasy Impact:

Niese has gotten better and better as the first half has gone on. Niese who started out very shakey this season, has started to pick it up closer to the end of the first half. This season he is 5-8, with a 3.61 ERA in 104 2/3 innings pitched, with 70 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.38. Niese will bring a decent top of the line pitcher to any rotation that is looking a jolt as they start up the second half. The Mets will look to continue their winning ways as the second half starts up after the all star game.
