Strong start for Hisashi Iwakuma

by John Trupin | Sun, Aug 2nd 5:49pm EDT

Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma stymied the Minnesota Twins offense on Sunday, going 8 2/3 innings and allowed just three hits and one run on a home run in the 9th inning that robbed him of a shutout and a win. Iwakuma has looked closer to full strength in his last five starts, posting an ERA of 2.82 during that span. His eight strikeouts were a season high.

Fantasy Impact:

While the Mariners elected to hang on to the talented but seemingly fragile starter, fantasy owners may be looking at Iwakuma's current performance as a potential trading chip. For owners short on pitching, Iwakuma seems to have regained much of his form and could boost a struggling staff down the stretch. Avoiding injury and starts in home run heavy ballparks will be key to making Iwakuma a viable starter.
