Asdrubal Cabrera homers, continues hit streak as Rays dominate

by Mike Werner | Wed, Aug 5th 1:05am EDT

Rays shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera continued his hot hitting ways Tuesday night, going 2-for-4 with a solo-homer and 3 runs scored as the Rays downed Chris Sale and the White Sox 11-3 Tuesday night.

Fantasy Impact:

To say Cabrera's been mediocre this season is well, an understatement. For starters, he's hitting righties worse this season, hitting a modest .236 against them thus far. He ended up at that same number last year, but hadn't been under .247 since 2008. He hasn't hit less than 14 homers in any season since 2010, but currently has 6. Along with all of that, he's also sporting career lows in AVG(.238), OBP(.289), OPS(.669), contact rate(77%), hard-contact(83), and stolen bases(3). Yeah, not much room for optimism. With that said, since he's come back from the DL, he's had a hit in all seven games, with four going for multiple hits. He's also gone 12-for-27(.444) with two homers, 11 runs scored, and 4 runs batted in during that span. He certainly shouldn't continue being outside the top thirty at shortstop the rest of the season, and you could do worse in AL-Only leagues. At least until the hot streak is over.
