Justin Verlander takes no-hitter into ninth in Detroit victory

by Julius Bzozowski | Astros Correspondent | Thu, Aug 27th 12:59am EDT

Justin Verlander threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Angels. Verlander's flirtation with history came to an end when Chris Iannetta doubled down the left field line with no outs in the ninth inning. He was looking to become the sixth pitcher in MLB history to throw three or more no-hitters.

Fantasy Impact:

Justin Verlander is really on fire now. It is only his second win of the season, but in his last seven starts Verlander has a 1.38 ERA with a 49:8 strikeout to walk ratio. The Tigers may be inconsistent in putting together games with both hitting and pitching, but Verlander has been doing his part almost every time out.
