Joaquin Benoit in the closer mix for the Mariners

by Chris Zolli | Tue, Dec 1st 1:53pm EST

Joaquin Benoit was signed by the Mariners this offseason and should be the closer for Seattle by Opening Day, as Seattle does not have a closer set in stone from 2015. He has never saved more than 24 games in a season in his career, but has 1.98 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over the last three seasons. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Benoit was the closer for the Tigers during the 2013 season and posted a 2.01 ERA with 23 saves, showing that he can be a closer if need be. Many thought that he would be the closer for the Padres during the 2015 season before the team added Craig Kimbrel the day before the season and Benoit is a sleeper for the 2016 season. The Mariners may not be the best team, and could finish last in the AL West, but Benoit's solid advanced statistics could make him a top-10 RP.
