Gio Gonzalez struggles with command in 5-3 win over Astros

by Beau Gallerneault | Mon, Mar 21st 10:59pm EDT

Gio Gonzalez walked four batters and gave up five hits but managed to only give up one run in a 5-3 win over the Astros. He struggled with his command early on but did settle down after the second inning to only give up the one run.

Fantasy Impact:

Gio Gonzalez is firmly entrenched as the third starter behind Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg in the Nationals rotation and should be good for over 30 starts this year. With an ADP of 180 he could be a good value pick as he does have a high ceiling for wins and strikeouts. He does come with some risk though as he struggled with WHIP last year (1.423) and has seen his ERA rise (albeit slightly) every year since 2012. That being said you would be pressed to find another starter in the 15th round that will likely get you over 10 to 15 wins, an ERA of around 3.50, 175 plus innings and around 170 strikeouts.
