Logan Forsythe plays hero in the Rays controversial victory

by Mike Werner | Wed, Apr 6th 1:02am EDT

Logan Forsythe went 3-for-4 with a double and a game-winning two-run home run as the Rays edged the Blue Jays 3-2 on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact:

With a runner on in the eighth inning, Forsythe swatted a Brett Cecil offering into the right field seats to give the Rays the lead. The homer was his first of the season, but there was also some controversy involving Forsythe at the end of the game. With the bases loaded and one out, the Blue Jays were making a bid to win the game. Edwin Encarnacion hit a grounder to Evan Longoria who threw it to Forsythe at second to try and complete the inning-ending double play. After Forsythe caught the ball for the first out, he went to throw it to first base and Jose Bautista reached his arm out and grabbed his right foot to try and alter the throw. Alter the throw he did. Forsythe's throw to first was well short, and ended up passing Steve Pearce which momentarily gave the Blue Jays a one run lead. However, after further review, the Rays were awarded the double play and the win because of Bautista's blunder, which predictably made John Gibbons and the Blue Jays very frustrated. There's certainly varying opinions on the "slide" rule, but all-in-all it was the right call based on the new rules. The Blue Jays and Rays will face off again at 1:10 EST in what will surely be a heated battle to end their opening four-game set.
