Gio Gonzalez has strong start to the 2016 season

by Chris Zolli | Fri, Apr 29th 7:39pm EDT

Gio Gonzalez has not allowed more than two runs in any start this season and has a ERA 1.42 ERA in 25 1/3 innings this season. He has pitched at least six innings in each start and has cut down on his walks as well, walking three batters or fewer in each start. He will face the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

Fantasy Impact:

Gonzalez has a 0.99 WHIP so far this season, a pleasant surprise for any fantasy owner that bought low on him as a SP4. Although he had a higher than average 3.57 ERA in 2015, he did have a 2.89 ERA and held batters to a .219 batting average in September 2015, a sign that he could return to his solid past. Gonzalez has limited exposure to Royals' batters, but the team has a .922 OPS in 53 at-bats, including two home runs in six at-bats from Eric Hosmer.
