Slow start to 2016 for Justin Verlander

by Chris Zolli | Astros Correspondent | Fri, Apr 29th 8:56pm EDT

Justin Verlander has allowed three runs or more in four of his five starts in 2016, posting a 5.46 ERA, but has seen his ERA drop over each of his last three starts. Even though Verlander has not looked outstanding, he does have 31 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings and has pitched six or more innings in four of his five starts. He will face the Indians on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact:

The long ball has been Verlander's nemesis in 2016, as he has allowed six home runs already and his 1.31 WHIP is not doing him any favors either. He has looked sharper in his last three starts, striking out 24 batters, but he is only a marginal starter at this point in his career. Verlander has allowed a .691 OPS to current Indians batters in 331 at-bats, but Carlos Santana does have seven home runs off of Verlander in 56 at-bats.
