Alex Wood strikes out nine Padres

by Stan Son | Athletics Correspondent | Sat, Apr 30th 12:38am EDT

Alex Wood allowed five hits, one earned run, walked one, and struck out nine in seven innings Friday night against the San Diego Padres. Unfortunately, the Dodgers' offense could only muster one run, leaving him with a no-decision. 66-of-100 pitches were thrown for strikes.

Fantasy Impact:

For as bad as the Padres have been this year, they have actually been good against left-handed pitching, ranking seventh in all of baseball with an OPS of .820. With that said, they are still the Padres. It's tough trusting Wood because of his inconsistencies this year. Is Wood back or are the Padres that bad? His next outing against the Toronto Blue Jays should help answer those questions. On the season, Wood has a 4.82 ERA, 1.54 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched.
