Cord Phelps keeps pushing for roster spot

Cord Phelps, a non-roster invitee, is doing everything he can to make the Phillies roster, yet it still might not be enough. Phelps went 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI and run scored in the Phillies 18-4 blowout loss to the Pirates. Phelps is hitting .293 with 9 walks, 6 RBI and 6 runs scored this spring.

Fantasy Impact

Phelps probably deserves a roster spot, yet could end up at Triple-A Lehigh Valley for organizational infield depth. Should he make the roster, it would be strictly as a backup, and would likely have minimal fantasy impact.

Cord Phelps cools off after hot start

Cord Phelps, a non-roster invitee, trying to make the roster as a backup infielder, got off to a torrid start this spring. He has cooled off considerably as of late and went 0-for-3 today against the Minnesota Twins. Phelps is still hitting a respectable .270 in Grapefruit League play.

Fantasy Impact

Phelps still appears to be a long-shot to make the Phillies, despite having a good spring. He had 5 RBI, 5 runs scored, 8 walks and only 6 strikeouts in 37 at bats. Phelps could end up at Triple-A Lehigh Valley for organizational infield depth. Expect him to see some playing with the Phillies this season.

Cord Phelps makes case to claim roster spot

Cord Phelps, a non-roster invitee, has made the most of his opportunity this spring. He went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the Phillies' 7-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Phelps is batting .345 in Grapefruit League play.

Fantasy Impact

Phelps might not make the Phillies' roster, despite his strong performance. But he could open eyes around the league and land a spot as a backup infielder. In any event, Phelps likely will not earn enough playing time to be a significant fantasy contributor.

Cord Phelps sizzles at the plate against former team

The Philadelphia Phillies had few bright spots in a 16-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. One player who stood out was Cord Phelps, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored versus his former team. Phelps, a non-roster invitee, is batting .389 this spring.

Fantasy Impact

Despite the stellar play by Phelps, he's likely the odd man out for a backup infield position. The Phillies could keep Phelps over Cesar Hernandez, but the versatility of Hernandez gives him the edge. Phelps will probably start the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but could get the call quickly should there be an injury to a middle infielder.

Cord Phelps continues to swing hot bat

The Phillies pounded out 15 hits in Sunday's 11-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Cord Phelps was a significant contributor, going 1-for-2 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 walks. Phelps, whose hit was a 3-run home run, is now batting .333 this spring. Phelps is a non-roster invitee, but has been turning some heads.

Fantasy Impact

While Phelps has been doing an excellent job at the plate this spring, it's unlikely that he'll make the Opening Day roster. Odubel Herrera and Cesar Hernandez appear to have those spots locked up. Phelps will likely end up at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but could see time at the first sign of an infield injury.
