Derek Holland roughed up by Jays

Derek Holland was introduced early to the Toronto Blue Jays high-scoring offense in game four of the ALDS. Holland surrendered three home runs and six runs overall in just two innings of work as the Jays blasted the Rangers 8-4.

Fantasy Impact: This was especially disappointing for the Rangers as Holland is a veteran who could have helped the team clinch the series at home. Instead, he was simply awful and now the teams head back to Toronto for the series finale.

It's been a rough last few outings for Derek Holland, but tonight he battled through some control issues to limit the Angels to three runs over 6.1 innings of work. Holland (4-3) walked three and struck out six in earning his first win since Sept. 5.

Fantasy Impact: Holland has struggled of late, and it would be doubtful that he would be used in a starting role in the playoffs at this point. Still, having a veteran left-hander that can throw several innings out of the bullpen is a bonus for the Rangers.

Derek Holland allowed ten hits and five runs in just 5.2 innings of work in the Rangers 6-5 win over Houston on Tuesday. The win put the Rangers 1/2 game in front in the AL West.

Fantasy Impact: Staked to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, Holland surrendered three runs in the top of the second and two more in the top of the fourth. Fortunately, his teammates picked him up and rallied for the win in the ninth inning.

Derek Holland tossed a complete game three-hit shutout in just his fifth start since returning from a shoulder injury he suffered in April. Holland was superb, striking out 11 and not walking a batter in leading the Rangers to their fourth win in a row, and 13th win in their last 17 games.

Fantasy Impact: While the acquisition of Cole Hamels was important, the Rangers post-season hopes really centered around the return of Holland. The feeling was that if he could come out and do what he did at the end of last year when he was also coming off an injury, the Rangers chances looked good. A rotation of Hamels, Holland, Gallardo, Lewis and Perez is formidable. Next year, add in Yu Darvish and it's downright nasty!

Derek Holland impressive in return

Derek Holland allowed eight hits and two runs in 6.1 innings of work in the Rangers 7-2 win over Seattle today. Holland, making just his second start of the season, and his first since he lasted just one inning back on April 10, earned the victory to even his record at 1-1. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Fantasy Impact: This might be the most important start of the season for the Rangers team as a whole. If Holland can come in and provide consistent, quality starts, then a rotation of Cole Hamels, Yovani Gallardo, Colby Lewis, Martin Perez and Holland is pretty impressive.

Derek Holland threw 55 pitches in a rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock Tuesday night. While the final pitching line was not great - three hits, three walks and two runs (one earned) in just two-plus innings of work, the Rangers were happy that he was able to throw that many pitches, and also hit 95 mph on the radar gun. Fantasy Impact: Holland is slated to pitch at Double-A Frisco on Sunday, and up his pitch count to the 60-70 range. He is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before the Rangers make a decision about activating him.

Texas Ranges' Derek Holland left the game Friday after 1 inning when he suffered a shoulder sprain. He will miss 4-6 weeks. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: It's another blow for the Rangers' pitching staff as they had already lost Darvish for the season. Holland missed most of last season after a freak accident where he injured himself tripping over his dog. It's difficult to know how his shoulder will respond after rest, but he'll hold no fantasy value for at least the next two months.

A so-so start for Derek Holland

Derek Holland made his second start of the spring today, tossing 5.1 innings in the Rangers 15-10 split squad loss to the Cubs. Holland allowed six hits and five runs (four earned), walked two and struck out four.

Fantasy Impact: Certainly nothing to write home about, but for just his second start, nothing to be too ashamed of either. Holland gave up a home run to Matt Szczur in the fifth inning that helped the Cubs get back into the game. Holland will need to come up big for the Rangers this year with the loss of Yu Darvish if the team is going to have any chance of competing in the AL West.

Derek Holland was scratched from his scheduled one-inning intrasquad appearance due to what GM Jon Daniels called "normal shoulder soreness." (Source:

Fantasy Impact: With last year's Rangers team looking like a MASH unit, even the hint of an injury cropping up sends up red flags. Holland wanted to pitch on Sunday, but instead is slated to see the bump on Monday. If that gets scratched, then it's something to be concerned about. Remember, Holland is coming back from an injury last year, but it wasn't a shoulder injury--it was a knee injury. Perhaps it's just early season soreness, and for Rangers fans, that's what they're hoping for. I have Holland projected as a top-10 AL Cy Young candidate in 2015.

Pitcher Derek Holland, who missed most of the 2014 season due to a freak accident at home, slipped and fell in his shower during a 3.5 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday. Fortunately, this time, Holland escaped injury (Source:

Fantasy Impact: You know there's not much going on when a slip in the shower makes news, but this could have been catastrophic for the Rangers if something serious had happened. Perhaps Holland should wear heavy padding and a crash helmet whenever he's not at the ballpark.
