Erick Aybar (SS)

Los Angeles Angels - 85% owned

(?)
Bats: B, Throws: R

Erick Aybar went 1-for-4 in yesterday's Angels loss. His one hit was a single and he was thrown out trying to strech it into a double.

Fantasy Impact: Erick Aybar hit out of the leadoff spot yesterday, as Kole Calhoun was out with an injury. Calhoun is not expected back until Friday or Saturday, so Aybar will be getting a couple extra at-bats in the coming days. Aybar is only hitting .214 on the early season and will be looking to turn it around as the Angels face the Rangers tonight.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-3 with a single against the Mariners on Opening Day.

Fantasy Impact: Erick Aybar had one of the two Angels hits off of Felix Hernandez yesterday, the other of course being Mike Trout's home run. The Angels will need Aybar to build off of his success from last season to make up for the absence of Kendrick and Hamilton. Last season Aybar had a career high in hits with 164 and RBIs with 68, while hitting .278. With more plate appearances in the middle of the line-up this season Aybar should continue his success this season and should be a top ten shortstop in the MLB.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-3 with a solo-HR against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact: This was Aybar's first HR of the spring and it was a very welcome sight to fantasy owners. Aybar isn't the most interesting of SS buys on draft day, but he's reliable and you can grab him late. A 10HR/20SB season is a good possibility.

Erick Aybar went 2-for-3 with a single and a RBI double against the Cubs on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact: Aybar has been heating up lately, with three multi-hit games in his last five appearances. The only negative so far is that he's only stolen one base, and has yet to hit a home run. Aybar, even after declining somewhat over the last few years, remains a top-10 SS in fantasy, and a 10 HR/20 SB season is still within reach.

Erick Aybar is batting .231 with one triple and 8 total bases halfway through spring training. He has not attempted a stolen base in Grapefruit League play, unlike his previous nine tours in Arizona. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: Aybar and Howie Kendrick, who was traded to the Dodgers in the offseason, weren't just the second-longest double-play combo in MLB at the end of 2014. They were also teammates in AA and AAA ball going back to 2005. Kendrick was in the final year of his contract this season, which is the same situation Aybar will face in 2016 - so transition might be heavy in the desert air. The Angels SS has shown a stable BABIP and OBP for four years, but his power and speed have steadily declined. If he can continue to improve on his K rate and line drive % as he did in 2013-14, he can still compile some counting stats and be a suitable injury replacement in 2015.
