Erick Aybar (SS)

Los Angeles Angels - 45% owned

(?)
Bats: B, Throws: R

Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 with a single, double and two runs in a loss to the Redsox.

Fantasy Impact: He has steadily picked up his hitting and is becoming the shortstop you drafted. Aybar will never have gaugthy numbers as he doesn't hit for power or steal bases but he is a top 10 shortstop. He's now batting .274 with 19 runs and is back in the lead off spot which increases his value.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run HR against the Red Sox on Friday. He also struckout once in the game and recorded his first stolen base of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Aybar finally was able to get some counting stats for his owners, as his decent average (.269) was all he had been providing thus far. It's impossible to tell if this will be a trend, but Aybar should be active in all but the most shallow of mixed leagues regardless.

Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 collecting two singles and has now hit safely in his last eight games.

Fantasy Impact: Aybar is heating up at the plate so if he was dropped in your league and you haven't made a claim yet you probably missed the train. He's a good shortstop at a shallow position although he doesn't steal many bases or hit for power. However, he is now batting .275 and hits clean-up in a good Angels line-up.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-4 with a single and scored a run against the Orioles.

Fantasy Impact: He now has a seven game hit streak going and has raised his batting average to .269 with 12 RBI and 13 runs. Aybar isn't a bad shortstop but he doesn't steal a lot of bases or hit for any power. He's heating up and is still a good option at a relatively shallow position.

Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 with a single, a double, and a run scored against the Orioles on Friday. He also struckout once in the game.

Fantasy Impact: After April it seemed like a lost season was in the works for Aybar, as he was hitting .222 with no homers or stolen bases. However, Aybar is crushing thus far in May, hitting a blistering .347 with four RBI and eight runs scored. There still aren't a lot of counting stats to be had here, but Aybar has regained usefulness in deep mixed leagues, and is worthy of being a starter in AL-Only formats.

Erick Aybar went 3-for-4 with an RBI a double and two singles last night in an 11 inning game against the Marlins.

Fantasy Impact: Aybar has been heating up at the plate as of late and has a nice five game hitting streak going. If he was dropped in your league now would not be a bad time to grab him as the SS position is very thin. He carries a decent batting average and is not a bad source of speed but we are still waiting on him to steal his first base this year.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk against the Giants on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: It may not seem like much, but the combination of a single and a walk made Aybar the only Angels player to reach base twice in the game on Sunday. However, Aybar is still hitting a pitiful .204, with no homers or stolen bases, and isn't worth using in mixed leagues, or really even AL-Only, unless you have no other choice.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-4 with a single and two RBI against the Athletics on Wednesday. He also struckout twice in the game.

Fantasy Impact: It hasn't been a stellar start to the season for Aybar, hitting just .211 with no homers or stolen bases thus far. Aybar was able to get two RBI in Wednesday's game, bumping his total up to seven for the month of April, but that's still little help to fantasy owners. Aybar should only be started in AL-Only formats if necessary, but there are better options even in those leagues.

Erick Aybar went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run in the win.

Fantasy Impact: Aybar has started every game for the Angels this season and is only hitting .220. He has shown in the past that he can be better. For the time I recommend not starting Aybar, but do keep him on your bench.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-4 in yesterday's Angels loss. His one hit was a single and he was thrown out trying to strech it into a double.

Fantasy Impact: Erick Aybar hit out of the leadoff spot yesterday, as Kole Calhoun was out with an injury. Calhoun is not expected back until Friday or Saturday, so Aybar will be getting a couple extra at-bats in the coming days. Aybar is only hitting .214 on the early season and will be looking to turn it around as the Angels face the Rangers tonight.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-3 with a single against the Mariners on Opening Day.

Fantasy Impact: Erick Aybar had one of the two Angels hits off of Felix Hernandez yesterday, the other of course being Mike Trout's home run. The Angels will need Aybar to build off of his success from last season to make up for the absence of Kendrick and Hamilton. Last season Aybar had a career high in hits with 164 and RBIs with 68, while hitting .278. With more plate appearances in the middle of the line-up this season Aybar should continue his success this season and should be a top ten shortstop in the MLB.

Erick Aybar went 1-for-3 with a solo-HR against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact: This was Aybar's first HR of the spring and it was a very welcome sight to fantasy owners. Aybar isn't the most interesting of SS buys on draft day, but he's reliable and you can grab him late. A 10HR/20SB season is a good possibility.

Erick Aybar went 2-for-3 with a single and a RBI double against the Cubs on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact: Aybar has been heating up lately, with three multi-hit games in his last five appearances. The only negative so far is that he's only stolen one base, and has yet to hit a home run. Aybar, even after declining somewhat over the last few years, remains a top-10 SS in fantasy, and a 10 HR/20 SB season is still within reach.

Erick Aybar is batting .231 with one triple and 8 total bases halfway through spring training. He has not attempted a stolen base in Grapefruit League play, unlike his previous nine tours in Arizona. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: Aybar and Howie Kendrick, who was traded to the Dodgers in the offseason, weren't just the second-longest double-play combo in MLB at the end of 2014. They were also teammates in AA and AAA ball going back to 2005. Kendrick was in the final year of his contract this season, which is the same situation Aybar will face in 2016 - so transition might be heavy in the desert air. The Angels SS has shown a stable BABIP and OBP for four years, but his power and speed have steadily declined. If he can continue to improve on his K rate and line drive % as he did in 2013-14, he can still compile some counting stats and be a suitable injury replacement in 2015.
