Jonathon Niese News & Advice

Obviously the shoulder/elbow issues this spring but a damper on that a bit, but once he came off the DL he is showing that he's healthy. He allowed just 1 ER on 4 H and 3 BB, striking out 7, over 6.0 innings and now owns a 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, with 16 K, over 19.0 innings on the season. The biggest question is his health and if he can keep it together for the entire season, but he's well worth the investment right now. - Eric Stashin

Instead of attempting to halt his early-season struggles while facing Mets left-hander Jon Niese for the first time since their last encounter left him fractured and bloodied, Jason Heyward was given a chance to rest as the Braves opened a three-game series on Friday night at Citi Field.

Is he a must start option for his next start against the Braves? Absolutely not, but he's well worth owning at this point. He has the potential to finally put it all together, making him an ideal player to grab before it's too late. - Eric Stashin

With a groundball rate north of 50% in two of the past three seasons, the potential is there for the total package. As long as he can stay healthy, something that's always been an issue, this could be the season that he finally puts it all together. If he's sitting on your waiver wire, he's well worth grabbing. - Eric Stashin

The Fantasy Fix | Apr 8th, 3:01am
The Mets starting infield had a collective -15 defensive runs saved last season. It stands to reason that this was partially responsible for the .326 BABIP. If the Mets can improve their infield defense this season then we might see a lower BABIP and a lower ERA. - Scott Barzilla

Niese really regained form after I dropped him off all my fantasy teams returning from injury. In fact, he pitched like the top-40 starter that he was in 2012. You don't have to be as aggressive as RA to get this guy on your team, but you definitely should. - Alex McCrum
