Matt Belisle allowed one run on one hit and a walk on Tuesday against the White Sox, but earned his fifth save of the season.
Fantasy Impact
Belisle allowed a walk, and the runner advanced on defensive indifference before coming around to score on a single. Since taking over as the closer, Belisle has been fairly reliable, and should continue to see save chances down the stretch.
Matt Belisle pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Brewers on Monday to preserve the Twins' 5-4 lead and earn his second save of the season. He allowed just one hit and struck out one.
Fantasy Impact
While Paul Molitor insists that he will mix and match in the ninth inning, Belisle has received and converted each of the last two save chances. Further cementing Belisle's likely role as the closer is the fact that both opportunities represented one-run leads, and Belisle converted them with ease. While it wouldn't be surprising to see Taylor Rogers get the occasional save chance with several lefties due up in the ninth inning, it looks likely that this is Belisle's job to lose.
Matt Belisle struck out one and did not allow a base runner in one innning of work during the Cardinals' 2-0 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday afternoon.
Fantasy Impact
Look, we know you don't own Matt Belisle in your fantasy league. His career numbers aren't great, but he has been pitching in Colorado, and his ERA was 1.15 points lower in away games last year. The Cardinals have a way of turning these types of guys into productive players. Belisle's next opportunity to pitch will be Friday in Cincinnati.
