Roberto Hernandez pitches a clean inning in relief

Roberto Hernandez pitched the ninth frame with the Astros leading 10-0, and did not allow a base-runner getting out of the inning with seven pitches thrown.

Fantasy Impact

Hernandez who lost his job in the starting rotation has been solid for the Astros out of the bullpen. Since his demotion on June 13th, Hernandez has allowed three runs in 19 IP, lowering his ERA from 5.18 to 4.36. Without a consistent role or save opportunities, Hernandez will not be owned in many leagues, but monitor his situation as the trade deadline nears.

Roberto Hernandez steadies the Astros against the Yankees

Roberto Hernandez came on in relief of Astros starter Brett Oberholtzer, who was ejected with one out in the second inning. Hernandez pitched 3.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit, walking three and striking out two batters.

Fantasy Impact

Hernandez entered the game with the Astros trailing 6-0, but exited with the score 6-6 as he shutdown the Yankees offense in 3.2 IP. Relegated to a relief role, Hernandez has performed very well only allowing one run in 9+ IP since the demotion. Unless you are in a fantasy league that values long-relievers, Hernandez should remain on the waiver wire.

Roberto Hernandez pitches three innings in relief

Roberto Hernandez pitched the final three innings of the Astros loss to the Mariners. He did not allow a run, scattering two hits while striking out one batter.

Fantasy Impact

This is Hernandez second relief appearance since being booted from the Astros rotation, and he has performed very well. In seven IP out of the bullpen, Hernandez has not allowed a run and has struck out six batters, lowering his ERA to 4.68 on the year. Unless he returns to the rotation, he offers little fantasy value in any format.

Roberto Hernandez pulled in the sixth inning after allowing six runs

Roberto Hernandez was pulled after recording two outs in the sixth inning after allowing six runs on nine hits, managing to strike out only one batter. The Blue Jays were leading the Astros 6-0 at the time of Hernandez exit.

Fantasy Impact

Hernandez did not have his best stuff Friday night as his sinker-ball was left up in the zone on multiple occasions, allowing two two-run home runs in the fourth inning. Hernandez came into the game with 2:1 ground ball/fly ball ratio, but registered 11 fly-ball outs, never a good sign for a ground-ball pitcher. With a 5.32 ERA and a likely 2-5 record, Hernandez is a risk to own in fantasy leagues, he will give you a solid outing here and there, but cannot be relied on consistently.

Roberto Hernandez notches a quality start

Roberto Hernandez pitched six innings, allowing two runs, while scattering seven hits, striking out three batters. The Astros went on to beat the Athletics 6-4.

Fantasy Impact

Hernandez picked up his second victory of the season, improving his record to 2-3 on the year, while lowering his ERA below 4.00. Hernandez may not possess a lot of value in standard formats, but for those owners in deeper leagues, Hernandez can offer solid spot-starts here and there. He should not be relied on to lead your team consistently.
