Tommy Medica

Tommy Medica will not be on the Opening Day roster for the Padres. He was one of a few to be sent back to Triple-A.

This has an impact in later rounds of a draft. If you have drafted and have him I would keep him for a few weeks because he should be back with the club as soon as an injury happens.

In his first of 2 plate appearances Tommy Medica dropped a bomb to left field. He also singled in his second at bat.

This has to be Tommy Medica's job to lose with Yonder Alonso hitting .231 this spring. Keep an eye out for news that announces that Medica has won the job because as soon as that happens pick him late for a great steal. For all you DFS players he will be cheap and he has been on fire.

Tommy Medica went 2-for-3 in Monday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, with 1 HR and 3 RBI. The 2-run HR was a shot to left center off Jon Lester.

Fantasy Impact

If Tommy Medica's fantastic spring continues, it will give Bud Black plenty to think about. It's tough to bench or send down a guy with a 0.556 AVG when you are getting minimal production from 1B. Of course it changes if Yonder Alonso starts hitting.

Tommy Medica is hitting an outstanding .533 and an OPS of 1.255 this spring training and continues to show why he shold make the 25-man roster. He would be pushing Yonder Alonso for the Starting role at 1B.

Fantasy Impact

Keep your eyes on Tommy Medica if he keeps swinging the bat like he is. He could be a steal of your draft in either auction or snake drafts. He most likely be a good pick-up if an injury occurs early in year.
