Torii Hunter knocks in two runs

Wed, May 27th 5:29pm EDT
By Matt Smith

Torii Hunter went 1-for-4 with a two-run single Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Fantasy Impact: Hunter has turned back the clock in the month of May, hitting .341 with six home runs and 22 RBI for the month. The Twins have more or less locked him in as their two-hitter, so Hunter should get the lion's share of ABs this season. At this point he must be viewed as a viable fantasy OF until he proves otherwise.

Torii Hunter went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the second inning Saturday against the White Sox.

Fantasy Impact: This was Hunter's seventh home run of the season as he continues to impress in the twilight of his career. He's on pace for his highest home run total since he went deep 28 times in 2007. He hasn't cleared more than 20 in a season since 2011.

Torii Hunter went 3-for-5 with a walk and three RBI Wednesday against the Pirates. All three runs were knocked in on a bases clearing double in the first inning.

Fantasy Impact: Hunter has had a very nice start to the season and was able reach base four times in this game. He is hitting .282/.329/.465 with six home runs, 24 RBI, and 21 runs.

Torii Hunter went 1-for-3 with a home run and two walks Wednesday against the Tigers. The HR was Hunter's sixth this season, but already his fifth in May.

Fantasy Impact: Hunter seems to have turned back the clock. In April, you pretty much got what you expected out of him, but he's been arguably one of the best hitters in the league two weeks into May. Over the last 12 games, Hunter is hitting .396 with five HR, 14 RBI and 14 runs. At 39, he isn't a threat to steal many bases, but he has certainly hit his stride and should be picked up if available. Ride the hot streak until the wheels fall off...assuming they do.

Torii Hunter just misses cycle

Sat, May 9th 1:37pm EDT
By Matt Smith

Torii Hunter went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Indians. He finished a triple short of the cycle and walked once.

Fantasy Impact: Hunter hit two doubles to go along with his fourth home run of the season, and at age 39, continues to produce for the Twins. His slash line is now .280/.322/.458 which is almost identical to his season totals with Detroit in 2014. He'll be 40 in July, but isn't showing any signs of slowing down at the moment.

Fantasy Impact: This is not surprising, given that it is a day game after a night game. Another reason is that Hunter has been in a slump lately, going .233/.277/.350 with 10 strikeouts.

Torii Hunter Held Hitless in Loss

By Steve Larson

Torii Hunter went hitless in four at bats with two strikeouts on Friday night against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.

Fantasy Impact: The night drops Hunter's season average to .232, with nine strikeouts on the season. This should be looked at as just an off night against one of the best pitchers in the league. Hunter should rebound this weekend when he faces James Paxton and Hisashi Iwakuma, who both have ERA's above 6.00.

Torii Hunter hit his first regular seson home run as a Twin since 2007 in the sixth inning of the Twins win over Cleveland.

Fantasy Impact: Hunter has been struggling so far, only hitting .225, but said after the game that he feels good about his swing. This is good news for Twins fans and fantasy players as he is going to be a integral part of the Twins this season.

Torii Hunter hit his first home run for the Twins since he left the team in 2007 on Tuesday against Toronto. The home run gave the Twins the lead 4-1.

Fantasy Impact: Hunter was signed over the winter for one year and $10 million presumably to mentor the exciting group of young outfielders the Twins have in the minor leagues. He has never been known for his power, but he is capable of going deep.

Fantasy Impact: The 39-year old veteran outfielder will return to the Twins, who originally drafted him two decades ago. Hunter will provide a much needed boost to the Twins lineup. The Twins have a young lineup with breakthrough players like Brian Dozier, Danny Santana, and Kennys Vargas; although he won't have the same opportunities as with Detroit, he will still have run producing opportunities in the middle of the lineup. Hunter was very consistent last season with the Tigers, slashing a respectable .286/.319/.446 with 17 HR, 83 RBI, and 4 SB and will bring a nearly .800 OPS over the past five years to Minnesota.
