Zack Cozart is out for the season after suffering torn ligaments and a tendon in his right knee. He will have surgery on it Monday. (Source: Cincinnati.com)

Fantasy Impact: This is a big blow to the Reds and fantasy owners, as Cozart was a top-10 fantasy shortstop, with his nine homers tied for third at the position. He looks to be replaced by Eugenio Suarez who was called up from Triple-A.

Zack Cozart feasted off Phillies pitching on Monday in the Reds 6-4 win. He went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored. His stellar night increased his batting average to .261 for the season.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart is on pace for 23 home runs this season and appears to have found his power that he had in 2012 and 2013 when he surpassed double digits in home runs. Cozart is a sold pick at shortstop for owners struggling at the position.

Zack was 2-for-3 on Sunday in the series finale against the Chicago Whitesox. He hit a huge double in the top of the ninth, scoring Boesch and Negron, to tie the game.

Fantasy Impact: He sat the previous three games due to a wrist injury, but the break appeared to do him some good. He was 5-for-10 with three runs scored, and three RBI in the series. Cozart is batting much better than his history indicates he should, but as a young player he may just be finding what works for him on this level. A fantastic value for any format right now as he continues to be overlooked.

The Reds will be eyeing Cozart's fingers over the next couple days to see how it is progressing after he caught a bad bounce trying to field the ball open handed. The bounce put a significant bruise on the tip of his middle finger on his throwing hand. Before that, he was 0-for-1 at the plate in his series finale against Atlanta.

Fantasy Impact: The hand is no worry to me for Cozart. It shouldn't keep him out long, and has no impact on his future plate performance. He's batting well this season, batting .304, including five homeruns and 12 RBI.

Zack went 1-for-4, with a run scored in the series finale against the Cubbies. A rainout on Saturday shortened the series to two games, luckily for Cozart. He struggled significantly against Chicago, going 1-for-8 in the two games they played.

Fantasy Impact: The last four games has been a bit of a hangover for Zack. Since the night he posted up huge numbers in Milwaukee (including two homeruns), he has gone 2-for-15. Maybe a little taste of Brewer is what he needs to get some life back. I like the Reds chances to put up lots of runs in the coming days, and I think Cozart will have his share.

Cozart had a monstrous day on the offensive side of the ball, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs, three RBI's, and a stolen base in the Reds 16-10 win over Milwaukee.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart is arguably the hottest player in baseball right now, batting .478 with four home runs, and seven RBI's in the last seven days. He's already matched last years total in home runs, so this could just be a fluke, albeit a fantastic one. Look for the production to continue tonight as the Reds enter game three of a four game series against the Milwaukee Brewers (2-12).

Cozart launched a two-run home run in the sixth inning of the Reds 6-1 win over Milwaukee. He went 1-for-4 on the day with three RBI's. His batting average for 2015 is now up to .326.

Fantasy Impact: Hard to believe that Cozart is only owned by 1% of a consensus owners in Yahoo and ESPN leagues. If you're struggling at shortstop or need an injury replacement you may want to take a look.

Cozart impressive to start season (Source: MLB.com Stats)

Fantasy Impact: Zack Cozart has occupied the 8 spot in the Cincinnati lineup for the majority of the past three seasons, and for good reason. Cozart is coming off a dreadful 2014 season in which he batted .221, knocked in only 38 runs, and homered just 4 times in 147 games. The 2015 expectations for Cozart were non-existent as most fans and fantasy owners were looking forward to the arrival of Eugenio Suarez, who the Reds acquired in the Alfredo Simon deal from Detroit. Suarez failed to make the big league club following a mediocre spring and the shortstop position again belonged to Cozart. Zack Cozart has been nothing short of remarkable over the first two weeks of the season as he is hitting .368, leading the Reds along with all NL shortstops. Cozart has added a home run, 4 runs, and 2 RBI’s. Zack Cozart remains dirt cheap in all DFS formats and should be considered when short on salary.
