Ish Smith scores 17 in season opener

Coming off the bench, Smith was able to outperform the Pelicans temporary starting point guard Nate Robinson, and as a result saw twice as many minutes. Smith recorded 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with nine assists, two rebounds, three steals and two turnovers in 38 minutes.

Fantasy Impact

Smith was one of the few bright spots for New Orleans Tuesday. Robinson got the start, but coach Alvin Gentry went with the hot hands of Smith for most of the game. With point guard Jrue Holiday out, Smith was able to show that he may be the better back-up over Robinson and could be a nice add to daily leagues if Holiday ends up missing more games. Even if Holiday doesn't miss anymore games, which is unlikely, Smith may have shown enough to get a chance at the number two point guard spot. If that were the case, he could be a sneaky add in case Holiday has any more setbacks.
